That sounds like very good news for Arrow, which is CW's reinterpretation of DC Comics' Green Arrow character. The show has been described as a darker grittier tale, with elements of the Bourne films mixed into it.

The potential series revolves around former billionaire playboy Oliver Queen who, after being marooned for five years on a remote island, returns with a mysterious agenda and a lethal set of new skills that he uses in a war on crime.

CW's Arrow stars Stephen Amell as Oliver Queen/Green Arrow, Katie Cassidy as Dinah “Laurel” Lance, Susanna Thompson as Moira Queen, and David Ramsey as John Diggle.

its so funny that they not calling it Green Arrow instead of Arrow. im guessing cause two other comic book movies that had Green in the title failed (Green Hornet & Green Lantern) lol

YES, can't wait for the Carrie Diaries, I'm not too excited about Arrow after hearing that Dinah would be played by the Melrose Place chick I can't see her as Black Canary :P Frick that show

@Ironman666 Green Arrow, from my understanding was first and Hawkeye was Marvels response to the character. (IMPORTANT DISCLAIMER: Please be aware that I am not saying Marvel copies DC, in fact they have been copying each other for years, this is one instance where it was Marvel copying DC)

I am holding my judgement in terms of the show, them seem to be saying the right things, with this having a mix of comic book and Bourne movies. The tone of the photo above suggests it will be grittier and hopefully lessons were learned from Wonder Woman, which just never looked good at all.

Hawkeye and Green Arrow are quite a bit different. Yes, they both have bows and an above average ability to hit targets with airborne things. That's because bows are awesome. More superheros should use bows. A bow with a ten ton draw weight would be amazing.

Good news. Looking forward to this show. Still admire Smallville's version of Green Arrow, particularly in Season 6, but I'm open to new twists.

I hear so much criticism about this show, but I loved Smallville, and I have a lot of faith in this show. The acting sounds great, the plot is DEAD ON PERFECT, there's so many positives. You know, we need shoes like this, where the CBM community can get involved and watch a great show. Why not have this show? We have nothing to lose. This show will be good, and I am excited and eagerly waiting for the premiere of this

This is the CW trying to fix their mistake of not having a superhero show to take Smallville's place on their schedule. I can understand why this is not a spinoff of Smallville. While spinning GA off from Smallville would have given them a built in fan base it also would have given them a built in ratings ceiling. However, by taking a popular character from Smallville and keeping a similar look they can possibly gain some of the Smallville fan base while also attempting to grab the viewers who will give any superhero show a chance (The Cape, No Ordinary Family) then it's just a case of making the show good enough to capture an audience.

First of all Green Arrow was introduced in 1941 and Hawkeye made is debut in 1964, so if anything hawkeye is the copy.
I will also take this with a grain of salt that this is a lock because they said the same thing about the Aquaman show and it was not picked up

... enough with the copy shit, it's lame and it's what the Marvel/DC war flamers always resort to and it's lowbrow and without merit. The similarity between Hawkeye and GA ends at the bow and arrow skill set.

CaptainDC, okay, you convinced me. I'll check it out in support of my comic nerd community ;P

Katie Cassidy is such a good actress, she's played all sorts of roles. I think she's the perfect Dinah! :D

That's great to hear. I'm not too hopeful for the show being great, but I wouldn't mind being surprised. :)

It's just really nice to have another live-action superhero TV show((based on a IP) to tune into.

If this ratings for this show are good. DC/WB might finally get that Supermax movie back into development.

@HelaGood I would say overall, NBC is a superior network to the CW. There line-up of shows is great.

I figured they wanted Wonder Woman on there network because the pilot had potential. Well, we all know how that ended up. Who knows? Maybe this will turn out much better.

@CherryBomb I like how Dinah is being adapted for this show. I liked her on Smallville, but them making her hair so short bugged the hell out of me. And I hope she eventually becomes Black Canary.

If she doesn't, that would be a huge letdown!

@CherryBomb

I agree that Katie Cassidy is perfect for Dinah and Gorgeous as well...

At least DC are giving it a go with a New TV Show...

All Comic Book fans should support a show like this so we can get more onto our TV screens...

@AUSSYACE I agree, I'm going to watch all the pilots of the live action DC/Marvel shows. Just to at least give them a chance.

Even if I'm not a fan of the character.

I'm mostly looking forward to this shows though:

1. Hulk
2. Booster Gold
3. Green Arrow

Katie Cassidy was great as Ruby on supernatural and Harpers Island, I think she is perfect to play Dinah. Wasn't really looking forward to this but the pic of Green Arrow and having Anna Sophia Robb who by the way is a great wee actress, this starting to look promising.

Hawkeye is a poor man's Green Arrow. For instance we all know who Oliver Queen is. Hawkeye not so much. May the 4th be with you. A New Hope 35th Anniversary today.

@Ironman666, Green Arrow has been around since the Forties. So Hawkeye is the poor man's GA. Still like Hawk though. Arrow sounds good, be nice to have a superhero show on tv again.

This show already sounds better than Smallville and the Wonder Woman pilot put together. The actors so far are spot on for Arrow and Canary. Ruby(Katie Cassidy) kicked ass in Supernatural!

Froggy- I agree with your comment but i would describe Green Arrow as a modern day Robin Hood where as Hawkeye's more of The Avengers' Wolverine. And since i prefer Wolverine's character over Robin Hood's, Hawkeye's my pic as being the top dog. But to each's own.

Green Arrow was created long before Hawkeye - in answer to the question posed by ironman 666.

Green Arrow first appeared in More Fun Comics #73 in November 1941.

Hawkeye first appeared in Tales of Suspense #57 in September 1964
