Is ARROW Gearing Up To Form A Birds Of Prey Team Which Includes 'Nyssa'?

The Arrow production team and writers have been teasing the upcoming second half of season 2 on twitter. With the overwhelmingly positive reception of Caity Lotz's Black Canary and Katrina Law's Nyssa al Ghul, are the Arrow producers up to something bigger?

We all know that an upcoming episode of Arrow is titled “Birds of Prey”and will feature the Huntress and Black Canary side by side for the first time on screen since the failed WB Bird’s of Prey. Here are the first sneak peaks from the Arrow production team:

But what about Oliver’s rekindled relationship with Sara?
Arrow’s executive producer Marc Guggenheim tweeted the following:

We all know that Oliver will end up with LAUREL Lance and sadly not Sara Lance. Thus, its safe to say this is from a dialogue between Ollie and Laurel, meaning Sara and Oliver are just a temporary flame. This leaves the door for Nyssa to come back and swoop in.

Nyssa’s role on Arrow is much greater than we have been told.

In the episode “Heir to the Demon", Nyssa’s passport had been flagged by ARGUS, which seems to indicate that the government is fully aware of the League of Assassins and that their activities have been a threat to national security (Terrorists?). This could be setting up for the League of Assassin's to become the villains of Season 3.

At the end of the episode, Nyssa goes into a deep reflection of her father’s values and how it has cost her her relationship with her “beloved” Sara, after Sara could not take the killing. Nyssa even sheds a tear as she releases Sara from the league. Considering we’ve already been told that Katrina Law returns after the 18th episode of this season, it is not impossible for Nyssa to follow the route of her comic book counterpart and cut ties with her father, and come back to Starling City. Nyssa probably does not know a lot people outside of the league, thus the natural thing for her to do is return to Sara and begin a new “non-killing” path.

Let’s hear from Caity Lotz (Sara) herself on how she was approached for the role: (Here is a transcript from her Interview with LA times)
There's an upcoming episode called "Birds of Prey," like the DC Comic featuring Black Canary and Huntress. So we're going to see Black Canary and Huntress team up?

Lotz: Um ... you're definitely going to see the two. You'll see them together, that's for sure. And they'll have some interaction. But you'll have to see what that is. We actually haven't shot it yet. But we will, very soon. I haven't met Jessica [De Gouw, who plays Huntress], but everyone says she's an awesome girl.

When you got the role, did you do a deep-dive into comics history?

Lotz: Oh yeah, DC sent me a bunch of "Green Arrow" and "Black Canary" comics, and also "Birds of Prey" comics. I checked those out and gleaned what she was all about. I didn't put pressure on myself to know the whole history of the character, but I did want to understand her emotional history. I did want to make sure I represented her strength. I didn't want to be a fake superhero, a girl who's not tough but she's still running around with her staff. I really wanted her to be strong. That was the thing I wanted to capture: strong and capable.

What if GOTHAM is part of the DCCU?

Stephen Amell was one of the first people to congratulate Ben Mckenzie on his new role as Gotham’s Jim Gordon. He didn’t just congratulate him, he welcomed Mckenzie to the DCU. Hmmm...

So if they are all part of one universe, could we see the Bird’s Of Prey form a nest in a Gotham without Batman? Someone has to fight the Penguin... right?. Personally I’d rather have the Arrow and Flash remain separate from Gotham, and have the Bird’s Of Prey remain in the Arrow universe or perhaps... Bludhaven.

With the overwhelmingly positive reception of Caity Lotz's Black Canary and Katrina Law's Nyssa al Ghul, are the Arrow producers up to something bigger? Take a look at all the clues gathered in this article and judge for yourself in the comments below.

It would be nice if Gotham was in the same universe but serve as a prequel to Arrow. Bats should be the first vigilante out there. Starting out just before Ollie came back from the island. If we're seeing origins for batman villains, it'd be nice if those villains show up in Arrow with the same backstory

The picture of Katrina Law is from when she was on Legend of the Seeker, not an upcoming episode of Arrow.

batman- i dont mind arrow using batman villains because most of them will never be seen on the big screen. although i dont know why they wont use deathstroke he is a brilliant villian IMO.

i think this will be what brings ras al ghul to starling city, he will come to kill sara and his daughter for betraying him. the only problem is im not sure who is the main villian of this season now, originally it seemed to be deathstroke, now it looks like ras and the league of assasins will be but there is also the suicide squad to look out for.

@AnnoDomini - Stephen Amell told Ben to "hop into the DC Universe", he didn't congratulate him. Felicity can't be Oracle... she has no fighting experience, she doesn't like Sara and she's too valuable to Ollie. But I see what you mean... we could see Lady Blackhawk's New 52 version show up in a later season

@Batman1216 - You do realize that the League of Assassins are tied to Merlyn, Arrow's #1 bad guy, in the comics too, right?

Based on what exactly ?

Well there was a rumor I heard that there might be another spinoff from Arrow like the Flash. It would be Birds of Prey. So it would be interesting if it was real. Hopefully if it is it would be better then the last show.

Also kill Laurel off and not Sara. I know in the comics Dinah ends up with Oliver. But in the Show Arrow isn't using her real name so why not just change the history some more. It's not like the people behind making Arrow aren't afraid to change it up. Plus I like Caity more then Katie.

@Aquaman9

Don't be silly kid, based on the comics Shado should be a villain and have Olivers child because she raped him.

But I guess shows and movies have NEVER strayed from their source material. EVER !

Although I don't recall the issue where Roy was able to punch through a shipping container with his Mirakuru powers.

Kindly refer me to that issue when you have the time.

The producers have confirmed that Laurel will become Black Canary and is Oliver's endgame. Sara will probably be the first black canary like laurels mother was supposed to be. A martial artist, and then Laurel will take up the mantle of black canary.

But yeah, the producers confirmed Laurel is going to be the black canary AFTER Sara was introduced as the canary.

@primordiac From TV guide last July:

"Everyone knows that Laurel Lance is the Black Canary. That's the way it is in the comic books, but how we get from A to B is the story of our show. In the same way that Oliver, when we meet him, is the vigilante, but this season he's going to becoming the Arrow, that's the step of his journey to eventually becoming the Green Arrow. Laurel Lance right now is a lawyer with a lot of heart and a lot of humanity and courage. But it takes more than that to put on the mask and go out and fight crime. Our series is the evolution of that. People will see how Caity Lotz fits into Laurel's journey along the way. For us, it's very emotional and surprising and exciting. I would say to everybody, we haven't let you down so far. Keep going on this ride with us."

That's nice, reminds me of how how Felicity was supposed to be a small part and be in about two episodes in the first season and is now the female lead.

These guys go with what works.

Sarah works Laurel doesn't.

Also what ???

A few things:

1) DCU is divided into Batman, Wonder Woman, Superman, and Green Lantern. The only reason GL doesn't fall into one of the holy trinity's cone of influence is because he hangs out in space more. Green Arrow falls into Batman's camp pretty hard so of course they're going to share characters, quit bitchin' about it.

2) I'm pretty sick of Batman. If they could just not have Batman in the DCTVU that would be sweet! Like if Batman, Iron Man, and Wolverine could all go be in movies together and leave the rest of TV, movies, and comics alone I would be a happy man.

3) Please tell me this Arkham Origins business won't crossover with Arrow.

4) They're making a show about a pre-Batman Gordon in Gotham? Weird.

@DarkGunslinger

If this show goes the road of Slade forcing Oliver to choose, like Ollie had to do on the island the writers win the award for laziest writing ever as far as I'm concerned.

Actually going with stuff people see coming from miles away ? I hope they know better and respect their audience enough to not go that route.
GizmoEl
GizmoEl - 2/10/2014, 11:41 AM
Personally, I think Laurel would make a better Black Canary than Sara. When Laurel is a badass, she's great. When she knocks people out and uses her self defense training, she's a great character. However, the writers have been using her to create drama and tension in the show. Her badassness is overshadowed by her whinyness. It's poor writing. Once she's written better, she'll be a great Black Canary.

I love how Sara kicks ass, but everything else about her character, to me, is dull. She ain't much of a better actress than Katie. I think for now she's a good canary, but I'm hoping Laurel steps up and becomes the Canary we've all been waiting for. One who is a great character in costume and as a civilian.

@Batmaniac

So we only adhere to the comics when it suits us now ?

I mean, why wasn't Laurels mother the first Black Canary in the show ? If the comics are not open to any interpretation ?

Is there some rule that says there HAVE to be two Black Canaries ?

The showrunners will go with what works.

In The Walking Dead Darryl was supposed to be a small part and get killed off pretty quick but he proved very popular with the audience and here we are.

Haha, name me one example of laurel being a "badass" in Arrow, please !

She has whiny-face, cry-face and bitchy-face

That's IT.

HAHA when was Laurel EVER a badass !?!?!?
