JUSTICE LEAGUE On ARROW? Producers Appear To Be Taking A Softer Stance

"We're imagining a DC universe without super-powered characters but that doesn't mean that in our parallel universe that there isn't a Metropolis or a Gotham City." --Executive Producer Marc Guggenheim

Just yesterday, I brought news about the appearance of Batman villain Firefly at the tail-end of the first season of Arrow and today, we're talking about Batman himself....as well as Superman and Wonder Woman. Before the pilot episode of Arrow aired, the producing team behind Arrow; Greg Berlanti, Guggenheim, and Andrew Kriesberg were pretty adamant about Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman and other fantastical DC characters not appearing on the show. Well, as we begin to 'dip our toes' into the first season of Arrow, it looks as if they make be taking a softer stance on DC's Trinity in perhaps a trend that could continue to unfold as the season progresses? Below, we're already getting acknowledgement of a larger Arrow universe that contains some staples and locales familiar to fans of DC's preeminent superhero trio.

"We're open to anything and everything; I'm not entirely sure you'll be seeing characters like Superman, Batman, Green Lantern and Wonder Woman because they're much more fantastical and right now we're focusing on Oliver Queen as being the only hero. That being said, we're looking forward to bringing on other DC Comics characters and characters that people have never really seen before or lesser-known characters. That's what's been fun for us; Superman will always get his due." --- Andrew Kreisberg

"We've got a lot of different characters and then there are characters you may not recognize unless you're a diehard comic book fans. One of the things we've done, mainly because we're fans, is we've thrown in a lot of Easter eggs for the hardcore fans. If you're a big fan of the DC Comics universe, you'll see a lot of familiar names and places: Big Belly Burger, which is a hamburger chain from the Superman comic books makes a regular appearance on our show and we have a Big Belly Burger franchise as one of our standing sets. You'll still hear about characters from those worlds and from [Gotham and Metropolis]. We're imagining a DC universe without super-powered characters but that doesn't mean that in our parallel universe that there isn't a Metropolis or a Gotham City. There are references to places like Corto Maltese (a wartorn island) and Markovia. I would listen and watch carefully if you're a comic book fan because some of the references are really subtle and will go past a lot of people." ---Marc Guggenheim

"When we bring characters from the DC universe into the show, we're careful about doing it right and having a reason to and not just doing it to say because we can bring in a specific character. As time goes on, hopefully we'll do some of the biggies." ---Greg Berlanti

"I want to see General Zod, or at the very least Terrence Stamp in some way shape or form. People have speculated that maybe Hal Jordan would show up in Starling City before he gets the ring. There are a ton of people that we could see." --- Stephen Amell

SYNOPSIS: After a violent shipwreck, billionaire playboy Oliver Queen was missing and presumed dead for five years before being discovered alive on a remote island in the Pacific. When he returns home to Starling City, his devoted mother Moira, much-beloved sister Thea, and best friend Tommy welcome him home, but they sense Oliver has been changed by his ordeal on the island. While Oliver hides the truth about the man he's become, he desperately wants to make amends for the actions he took as the boy he was. Most particularly, he seeks reconciliation with his former girlfriend, Laurel Lance. As Oliver reconnects with those closest to him, he secretly creates the persona of Arrow - a vigilante to right the wrongs of his family, fight the ills of society, and restore Starling City to its former glory. By day, Oliver plays the role of a wealthy, carefree and careless philanderer he used to be - flanked by his devoted chauffeur/bodyguard, John Diggle - while carefully concealing the secret identity he turns to under cover of darkness. However, Laurel's father, Detective Quentin Lance, is determined to arrest the vigilante operating in his city. Meanwhile, Oliver's own mother, Moira, knows much more about the deadly shipwreck than she has let on and is more ruthless than he could ever imagine.

I would like to see members of the Jl, but it will probably be before they get their super powers. As far as comic book villians. I would like to see The Riddler, Harvey Dent, Harley Quinn, or Lex Luthor. I would also like to see Green Arrow team up with Nightwing.

They're making a show about Shield? Why? Shield is like the most least interesting thing about the Marvel universe.

what drives me crazy about this site is that people complain that there isn't enough superhero/ comic based movies or shows available for those who love the genre to watch, then everytime one is announced, people spend all their time complaining about it before it is shown or even made.

That is how you kill the genre. why can't we just enjoy the fact that these show animated/live action , films, and projects are being made.

at least wait until they are aired or screened before bashing them.

to say sht show, before one has ever seen it is kinda idiotic to me. and if a show, like arrow (which I think shows promise) is premiered, lets remember that it is not going to be an exact copy of the source material. It needs to be fresh and made for a general audience, while giving the comic fanbase enough nods to satisfy them. remember, if enough people don't watch it it will be canceled. some shows need to find their legs. give it time. support it. give constructive criticism since the writers, producers, and studios read these site. bashing only makes the suits who don't understand the genre just want to pass and move, like Beyonce says, "On to the next one"

This is why they should not have done a Arrow show and why they should have done a Gotham City and a Wonder Woman show because they spent the last 10 years developing the Justice League with the exception of the 3 characters that weren't allowed to use which they are now allowed to use Green Lantern, Batman, and Wonder Woman. So now they have to start from scratch with all the characters which makes no sense.

I'm all for more DC characters on the show, but I do think bring trinity to the show would be a pretty bad idea.

I'm game. I personally think they'll do super-powers eventually (like Season 2 or 3) so I can see them bringing in a Justice League team. That would rock. Loved Smallville's JLA & JSA & Legion, so I'm hoping they do something cool like that on Arrow, but only in time, not yet.

Enjoyed the pilot, and looking forward to the next episode. In response to the post - I can't stand when producers talk about "how we're going to mention other places and names, yet not show them". That's what we in Australia call "Half a root" (Look it up at Urban Dictionary).

@mowood28 Totally agree. As a CBM fan with little knowledge, I scroll down to read the posts to pick up a few points here and there. Yet, all I read is negative bashing towards either the post, or to person stating their own opinion.

Warner Bros. is so stupid. Its full of the stupidest execs in film right now..
The answer to all of DCs TV and film woes is for WB to clean house and get all new execs.
Execs with vision and not just corporate blow hards who jump on whats hot..but too late

Smallville is a special case in that it went on for so long that it was kinda pointless to be so anal about that rule. Though i think it ultimately came down to money(except everybody else got a costume and got to fly).

But honestly they need to get past season 1 first.

Hal Jordan could make the most sense. He's not necessarily super powered and has a comic background with Green Arrow.

I am enjoing Arrow! I do think that the characters need to be fleshed out a little more. Do you guys remember a show called the Equilizer? That show did a good job of depicting the mean powerful villians and the satisfaction there was at the end of each episode when things were made right by the protaganist. We really need to see what angers Arrow, we need to feel the injustices that are occuring in Star City (I refuse to call it Starling City that is just silly in my book).
I think they made Oliver look like a douchbag too much, maybe they can reighn that in a bit? I am loving the island flashbacks and the fact that DC characters will be the show.
I would like the producers to consider super powers with respect to the characters in the comics that do have those characteristics. But lets be smart about it. After the first season, slowly introduce the super power concept but make it seem rational or perhaps evolutionary. Look at Lance Armstrong, that guy seems like he has some superpower, did you hear his lungs have double the oxygen compacity campared to the average human. Super powers should be in--but lets be smart about it!
