SUPERNATURAL's Katie Cassidy Cast As "Black Canary" In ARROW

Well, as her civilian alter ego anyway. Deadline report that Cassidy will play Oliver Queen's love interest Laurel - Dinah "Laurel" Lance in the comics - in The CW's take on Green Arrow..

As the casting continues for The CW's Green Arrow centric pilot, we now have our female lead. Katie Cassidy will play Oliver Queen's love interest Laurel. In the comics this character is the sonic scream powered Black Canary, but the following snippet from Deadline's report suggests that Laurel may not be donning the leathers or hurting anyone's ears in this show..



Cassidy will play Laurel, a young legal clinic attorney who shares a romantic past with Oliver. (In the comics, the character, Dinah “Laurel” Lance, has a superhero alter ego, Black Canary.)


Of course it doesn't say she definitely won't either, but judging from what we have heard about Arrow being more based in reality I'd say it's a safe bet. Cassidy has appeared in Gossip Girl, Melrose Place and Supernatural and joins Steven Amell as Oliver Queen, and Susanna Thompson who was cast yesterday as Oliver’s mother, Moira Queen. The pilot will be directed by David Nutter and is written/executive produced by Andrew Kreisberg, Greg Berlanti and Marc Guggenheim.

cast as black canary wtf? you got it wrong mate she's been cast as Dinah Lance, a character just has the same name as Black Canary and thats where the resemblance ends. I don't want to be cynical but ollie will probably take 10 years to come up with the identity of Green Arrow. Any ways hopefully this shows proves me utterly wrong

Neither did Lucy Lawless, but that Xena costume made her look gargantuan....Um, Not that that matters:) Anyway, this'll probably go along w/ the NEW 52, where the females are supposed to be more subdued. I just wonder if she's gonna be really Blonde or Black haired w/ a gold wig:)

Great actress, gorgeous, does not smoke, and can kick some ass!

I am glad she will get a role like this...Will she get to actually be Black Canary, and kick butt and scream?
I sure as hell hope so!

I love Black Canary too, and not just cos she dresses that way:) She's a really good character. I'm afraid to say I agree with the majority though, Cassidy may be great in the role but I seriously doubt she will be playing Canary, just "Laurel".

If she is Dinah Lance she is well cast. She looks the part. Hope to see her in some leather and fishnets. Screw the new 52 give me a hot sexy Black Canary any day! I am hoping this new show surprises me, David Nutter has been doing comic type pilots/shows for sometime. Besides Smallville, he did lots of X-files, Mantis, and even the Adventures of Superboy in the later seasons. His best work is on shows like Game of Thrones, The Pacific, and Entourage.

So far Im cautiously optimistic about this. The casting is good and the idea of a more grounded bourne-esque green arrow sounds cool. I just hope it doesn't turn out like Smallville.

It is just so wrong....It is one of those things you can't just look away from!
Like the commercials about abused animals...You want to turn the channel, but can't.
I hate it. People are HORRIBLE these days.


@nowtheresaBATman...There are times I care and other times I dont.

If it is drug or smoke related, it turns me off.
It is just something that I do. Not that it matters that much, I just find it VERY unattractive for people to do.
