According to THR, American Gods star Ian McShane has joined the cast of Neil Marshall's Hellboy reboot as a character who will be very familiar to fans of Mike Mignola's much-loved comic book series.

The veteran Deadwood actor will play the horned hero's adoptive father, Professor Broom, who was previously brought to life by the late John Hurt in Guillermo del Toro's original movie. He joins Stranger Things' David Harbour as a new incarnation of Hellboy.

Hellboy: Rise of the Blood Queen doesn't have a release date yet, but we do know that it'll be a R-rated adaptation that will focus on Anung Un Rama squaring off against a medieval sorceress who seeks to destroy humankind.

The reboot is scheduled to begin production in The UK and Bulgaria next month.

It must be very low budget if they are filling it with TV actors.

@TheFamousJMC - Um Ian McShane is a huge actor, and has been on both TV and Big Screen. Hell half of Hollywood is doing TV!

@Dedpool - Yeah I know but I stand by my comment about the budget.

@LEVITIKUZ - Yeah I prob should have said it doesn't have an official release date yet, but the fact that they begin shooting next month should make it pretty clear that they're aiming for a 201 release anyway.

@Nightmare - Truth be told, it's going to be tough to follow up everyone from the del Toro Hellboy films.

Hell even though he wasn't cast, del Toro was going to include Lobster Johnson in Hellboy 3 with Bruce Campbell playing him.

So is Ron going to be reprising his role as Hellboy? If not that's kinda disappointing.

@YoloSwaggins812 - No. It's a reboot. It's not connected to the del Toro films.

didn't expect that. Uncle Ben have a competitor now.

Uncle Ben: died 2 times (well 2,5)
Broom: there is a chance for second onscreen dead

@jerryblake - Well in the comics, Broom died in a different way than the film.

He died from a Frog Monster
