Deadline has shared the news that Paramount Pictures is committing to A Quiet Place as a serious franchise by tasking Jeff Nichols (Take Shelter) to write and direct a third instalment.
A Quiet Place Part II had its premiere earlier this year, but COVID-19 saw the movie's release date pushed back to April 23rd, 2021. John Krasinski co-wrote and directed the first movie, and wrote and directed the follow-up.
While plot details are being kept under wraps, the trade believes this is "not a straight sequel, but rather [broadening] the world that the original introduced." What we do know is that this third movie is based on an original idea by Krasinski. Why isn't he directing? Many Marvel fans will be hoping it's because he's helming and starring in Fantastic Four!
Michael Bay, Andrew Form, and Brad Fuller will produce via Platinum Dunes alongside Krasinski through his Sunday Night banner with partner,Allyson Seeger, who serves as Executive Producer.
A Quiet Place grossed around $340 million after costing only $17 million to produce.
In the sequel, following the deadly events at home, the Abbott family (Emily Blunt, Millicent Simmonds, Noah Jupe) must now face the terrors of the outside world as they continue their fight for survival in silence. Forced to venture into the unknown, they quickly realize that the creatures that hunt by sound are not the only threats that lurk beyond the sand path.
We'll keep you updated on how this one develops.
