EVIL DEAD RISE: Bruce Campbell Shares New Image From Upcoming Horror Revival

Bruce Campbell (Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness) has taken to Twitter to share a new still from Lee Cronin's upcoming horror revival, Evil Dead Rise...

Evil Dead fans have been desperate for a first look at some footage from the upcoming requel, Evil Dead Rise, and while there's still no sign of a teaser trailer, Bruce Campbell has now shared a new official still.

Campbell's character, Ash Williams, won't actually appear (as far as we know, anyway), but the Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness actor is on board as an executive producer along with Sam Raimi.

The image introduces a new group of characters that will be forced to contend with an army of dreaded Deadites. Something tells us quite a few (most?) of these guys will come to messy ends before the credits roll!

Evil Dead Rise is set to hit theaters on April 21, 2023. The horror flick will ditch the usual forest setting and move the gory action to the city, as "two estranged sisters’ reunion is cut short when flesh-possessing demons thrust them into a battle for survival."

Alyssa Sutherland (The Mist, Vikings) and Lily Sullivan (Picnic at Hanging Rock, Jungle) will play the lead roles.

Sam Raimi's microbudget original is still considered one of the best horror movies of all time, with direct sequels Evil Dead 2 and Army of Darkness as well as recent TV show Ash vs. The Evil Dead upping the comedic elements. The well-received 2013 remake was a far more serious affair, but we're still not sure what to expect from Rise from a tonal standpoint.

That title is extremely original... bet the story will be too...

I really want a surprise third act cameo from Ash or maybe a quick shot of his car cruising through the streets at one point so we know he's out there somewhere!

Or maybe tie it to the end of Ash v. EVIL DEAD and show the kaiju he fought on a news report in the background

@xfan320 - depends on how serious Bruce is about having retired from the role.
I would prefer him showing up as a supporting character/mentor figure in limited appearances to accomodate him rather as the lead.

But he still produces these films, so I'm at least glad him and Sam aren't sidelined by the studio the way Sly was for Creed 3

@Blergh - yeah. I think you could make it work if he is actually retired from the role, by just making this take place during the final events of Ash v Dead though.

If I could bring him back as a mentor, I would, but I feel like that trope is getting a little played out in the new trend of legacy sequels in Hollywood.

I don't want Ash Skywalker and The Last Deadite

@xfan320 - fair, maybe have him show up as a side character then for the gag. Fans want Ash but it's fair not to want that trope applied to Ash (who would be a shitty mentor tbh)

xfan320 - 12/6/2022, 9:26 AM
@Blergh - exactly. He did the mentor bit with his daughter in the show and it worked out alright.

I do think an out of nowhere, third act "bust into the apartment" type of cameo could absolutely work.

Perhaps in the same way the supporting characters show up at the Cabin over halfway through Evil Dead 2. That's the vibe I could see really being fun.

@xfan320 - maybe, I just don't think Bruce wants to do physical stuff.
Given his recent work he seems to still be willing to act but not as physically as he used to. He did a Hallmark Christmas movie this year and you can see that he's not physically where he used to be.

@xfan320 - I think Ash should be left alone, I didnt like what they did to him in the TV show, and Bruce is...old.
Bruce and Sam work together or they dont work at all, imo.

Evil dead 2013 was actually good

@Taonrey - agreed! I'm afraid this one is gonna be the same as well...

A really great movie that doesn't find a proper audience because Ash isn't part of it.

I don't mind moving on from Ash, but they really need to find a protagonist who can pull off the silly as much as the serious

Definitely going to watch this!
I hope it's fun and more along the lines of the original movies (par ED1 ofc)/show than the reboots more serious tone.

Don't get too many fun horror-comedies anymore

Nobody from the show is involved, and that worries me. I'll still see it
TheHumanSpider2
TheHumanSpider2 - 12/6/2022, 10:02 AM
I dont understand why we never got a sequel to the remake, fans liked it, general audiences liked it, it made money...

Anyway, about this...I dont know what this even is, a sequel, a reboot, another remake? and I still think making this movie theathers only is mistake...

Of all the remakes of the great horror franchises, I think Evil Dead is one of the best. I would put it in this order:

1-Evil Dead
2-Texas Chainsaw Massacre
3-Friday the 13
4- Rob Zombie´s Halloween
4-Hellraiser

5- Nightmare on Elm Street

Remembering that I only cited the remake films of recent years, without mentioning some spectacular ones like Dawn of the Dead, The Fly, The Ring
