GHOSTBUSTERS: AFTERLIFE Merchandise Gives Us A First Look At The Original Team Members

Peter Venkman, Ray Stanz & Winston Zeddemore didn't show up in today's Ghostbusters: Afterlife trailer, but thanks to this merch, we have some idea how the classic spook-hunters will look in the film.

Sony Pictures released a new trailer for Ghostbusters: Afterlife earlier today, but aside from some archive footage and a quick glimpse of Ray's (Dan Aykroyd) hand as he answered the phone, we didn't get that first look at the returning trio of spook-hunters fans were hoping for.

We might be waiting a while for that big reveal, but Hasbro has now unveiled its first wave of Afterlife merchandise, and the "Plasma" series action figures feature the older versions of Ray, Peter Venkman (Bill Murray) and Winston Zeddemore (Ernie Hudson).

These toys obviously don't represent exactly how the characters will look in the movie, but they do give us some idea of how they'll be depicted. At the very least, they would seem to confirm that the iconic Ghostbusters will be suiting-up alongside the younger heroes.

The rest of the figures include Lucky (Celeste O’Connor), Trevor (Finn Wolfhard), Podcast (Logan Jim), and Phoebe (Mckenna Grace). The “build-a-ghost” toy is called the “Sentinel Terror Dog, which appears to be a bipedal version of the original Gate Keeper and Key Master creatures

Check out some images below (via Bloody Disgusting) along with the new trailer.

From director Jason Reitman and producer Ivan Reitman, comes the next chapter in the original Ghostbusters universe. In Ghostbusters: Afterlife, when a single mom and her two kids arrive in a small town, they begin to discover their connection to the original ghostbusters and the secret legacy their grandfather left behind.

Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, Sigourney Weaver, and Annie Potts have all been confirmed to reprise their roles from the original movies, and they'll be joined by Paul Rudd (Ant-Man), Carrie Coon (Fargo), Finn Wolfhard (Stranger Things) and Mckenna Grace (Captain Marvel).

Ghostbusters: Afterlife is currently set to blast into theaters on November 11, 2021.

Dont know why they are doing another sequel/reboot, when the 2016 one was so successful and loved by critics and audiences.

@dragon316 - Because the guy who was a kid on set watching his dad direct the original and has always loved the movie had an idea and he was lucky enough to get the okay to do it.

@BatNips - The 2016 'version' was just a hollow mess of a film. It had no personality or energy. Personally, I think the actresses they got are all great but they were given sh*t material to work with,

@bcom - I still don’t understand how they managed to make Kristen Wiig not funny.

@newhire13 - I may get some backlash for this comment, but I feel Paul Feig spent more time making this movie a gender reversal statement than a actual Ghostbusters movie. Most of the jokes were pokes at gender stereotypes and Chris Hemsworth's character purely served as a "look! we've made the secretary a sexy dumb blonde man instead of the typical sexy dumb blonde woman... and that's funny!" running joke. The movie didn't need it. If they just concentrated on making it a great Ghostbusters movie instead of a middle finger statement to 'mandom' then it would've been a good movie. It really did have a lot of potential to be so much better than it was.

@dragon316 - Pretty sure that was Egon and Ray since everything is so old. Actually pretty in line with their thinking, they literally used a Super Nintendo to help make the Statue of Liberty walk lol

@Waddles - It's a bit of a shame that Rick retired from acting. Louis Tully was such a standout character. He still makes me laugh out loud even though I've seen the original movie so many times. The courtroom scene in Ghostbusters II where Venkman is mumbling to Louis telling him what to say as he's saying it is such a great bit of comedic acting. It would've been great to see him back.

I might have to take back my "zombie in the diner" observation from earlier of the Terror Dogs are going to walk upright, all anthropomorphized like that.

I get their going for the family ties in front and behind the camera, but I'm not sure how I feel about the kids being the main focus (if they are).

Mckenna Grace is a talent for sure but Wolfhard is just meh and I know nothing about the other 2. Hopefully I'm pleasantly surprised and it can lay the ground work for a sequel or 2 where they grow into the roles some.

I REALLY hope this is its own movie that still captures the feel and tone of the original instead. I don't want it to just be one of those "love letter" movies that is just filled with nostalgia nods but has little to no story of its own.

It may sound stupid, but if they show the three remaining OG Ghostbusters suiting up for 'one last ride' as per the figures above, I may actually tear up a little bit.

I hope they explain that the proton packs are newer and not the originals since in the original movies the adults had trouble putting them on cause of the weight so there’s no way those kids could wear them unless they’re newer with modern light weight technology. 👍🤷‍♂️

I really hope this doesn't delve into member berries. If it's a natural progression and makes sense, okay I can vibe with that. But please not another "Somehow Palpatine has returned." It looks fun and way more Spielbergian than the original, but I can dig it.
