GHOSTBUSTERS Sequel Adds AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR Actress Carrie Coon & STRANGER THINGS Star Finn Wolfhard
Jason Reitman's upcoming Ghostbusters sequel has found its first two leads in Avengers: Infinity War actress Carrie Coon and Stranger Things star Finn Wolfhard, who will play mother and son.
Variety is reporting that Carrie Coon (Avengers: Infinity War; Widows) and Finn Wolfhard (Stranger Things; It: Chapter 2) are now in talks to join Sony's upcoming Ghostbusters sequel, which has Jason Reitman (Tully) attached to direct.
Plot details are being kept under wraps, but the film is said to follow a younger cast of ghostbusting heroes as they battle a new paranormal threat to the world. A single mom and her family will be at the center of the story, with Coon portraying the mother while Wolfhard plays her eldest son.
The latest report notes that Reitman wasn't keen on casting any of the Stranger Things kids, due to the similar subject matters between the properties, but Wolfhard's audition absolutely blew both him and top executives away, so they decided not to pass up on the opportunity to work with the up-and-comer.
Reitman also co-wrote the script alongside Gil Kenan (Monster House). Production is expected to begin this summer with a July 10, 2020 release date in mind.
