GHOSTBUSTERS Sequel Adds AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR Actress Carrie Coon & STRANGER THINGS Star Finn Wolfhard

Variety is reporting that Carrie Coon (Avengers: Infinity War; Widows) and Finn Wolfhard (Stranger Things; It: Chapter 2) are now in talks to join Sony's upcoming Ghostbusters sequel, which has Jason Reitman (Tully) attached to direct.

Plot details are being kept under wraps, but the film is said to follow a younger cast of ghostbusting heroes as they battle a new paranormal threat to the world. A single mom and her family will be at the center of the story, with Coon portraying the mother while Wolfhard plays her eldest son.

The latest report notes that Reitman wasn't keen on casting any of the Stranger Things kids, due to the similar subject matters between the properties, but Wolfhard's audition absolutely blew both him and top executives away, so they decided not to pass up on the opportunity to work with the up-and-comer.

Reitman also co-wrote the script alongside Gil Kenan (Monster House). Production is expected to begin this summer with a July 10, 2020 release date in mind.

why is this kid always cast in nostalgic things? Stranger Things, the IT remake and now this. hell, he was already dressed as a Ghostbuster in season 2 of ST.

@Spidey91 - I would turn it down if I were him. He should start to beware castings like this.

@Spidey91 - hes also gonna be robin in a revival of the 60s batman show, alex Murphy's kid in robocop returns, and hes playing all the kids in a remake of stand by me.

@BlackBeltJones - well he's a kid and will grow (and his appearance will change). He doesn't have to worry about that. He's doing just fine

@BlackBeltJones - well, yes and no. True this would be his third gig sort of related to the supernatural/paranormal, but both those were 80s set pieces and this is present day

I suppose it's a good sign for not only the business but just kinda for humanity that despite the level of success Wolfhard's already had, he still had to audition.

but dammit sony, you're kinda making it a little harder for me not to give a shit about this movie lol

@CaptCoulson - i dont think hes had enough exposure to warrant not having an audition. Hes still not a household name. Most people just refer to him as the stranger things kid.

I love Carrie Coon (great in Fargo), so I'm glad she's getting to lead her own big franchise film!

@AmblinAlien - Agreed. She was also really great in the Leftovers on HBO.

@L0RDbuckethead - I have quickly become a big fan of her despite never knowing who she was before the Leftovers. She very much has an "every woman" quality to her, which, I don't know, maybe is why I felt her inclusion in Infinity War practically a waste. I was really excited when I heard she was playing Proxima, but man it just wound up not feeling right at all. There seemed like no expression in the fact whatsoever, and even the dialog felt very flat.
