Sony Pictures has debuted an international trailer for Ghostbusters: Afterlife, and if you thought the previous teasers traded a little too heavily on nostalgia, check out this new footage!

Sony Pictures has released an international trailer for Ghostbusters: Afterlife, and while a few shots are recycled from previous promos, this teaser comprised almost entirely of new footage.

When the review embargo lifted last week, many critics took issue with how much Afterlife relied on fan-service and revisiting well-known scenarios from the original movies, and the marketing team appears to have taken this on board... by dialling the nostalgia all the way up to 11 for this new trailer!

We hear an updated version of the classic theme as our young heroes chase spooks in the Ecto-1, there are several mentions of Egon (the late Harold Ramis), and the return of one of the first film's Terror Dogs. In fact, right at the end we get a recreation of the scene in which Louis Tully (Rick Moranis) discovers one of the preternatural pooches in his closet.

While this will likely prove to be divisive, we have a feeling a lot of Ghostbusters fans are going to lap it up!

From director Jason Reitman and producer Ivan Reitman, comes the next chapter in the original Ghostbusters universe. In Ghostbusters: Afterlife, when a single mom and her two kids arrive in a small town, they begin to discover their connection to the original ghostbusters and the secret legacy their grandfather left behind.

Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, Sigourney Weaver, and Annie Potts have all been confirmed to reprise their roles from the original movies, but we still don't know exactly how they'll be reintroduced.

Ghostbusters: Afterlife is set to blast into theaters on November 11, 2021.

Hm... didn't like that trailer. Kinda all over the place editing wise. I'm still fairly confident in this movie, and looking forward to them moving the legacy forward. And I hope this makes McKenna Grace a household name. She deserves it.

@ElricReturns - @waddles - Yeah definitely lacking the appeal of the last trailer. This felt way more like something the studio put together. Still looking forward to it though. I'm just hoping the plot isn't as cookie cutter as these trailers are suggesting.

Still not sure why we have Stay Pufts with no Ray to remember his childhood summer camp

Looks like a fun ride. My only preemptive complaint might be going so young with all of the kids.

Speaking of kids, since Weaver is in it, I wonder if Oscar makes an appearance.

@inkniron - I think its part of the nostalgia play - from a business perspective. Much of the audience saw it as kids. It's why they can forgive kids as Ghostbusters, but not women (see comment 2 posts down...).

This is also a reason why this film doesn't appear to be a comedy. The reviews are pretty extreme so far and part of that is because of the change in tone from the first 2 films. But the thing to consider is that when kids watched the first they didn't get the humor, and they take the film very seriously. In making this one they try to mimic the perceived memory of grown kids, not the actual tone of films.

Having said all that I'm really excited for the film. Though it does look drastically different, it looks good for what it is.

Really curious about that spectral force flying out of the mine shaft and into that structure covered in tattered cloth.

@TheFinestSmack - gonna be Gozer.

@darkginger - Part of me thinks it's that Muncher ghost. In the very first tease, we see something blue and ghostly looking in a factory or warehouse sort of building. Guessing MAYBE that's what the metal building covered in cloth could be.

I've only ever watched the original Ghostbusters and my gatekeeping ass intends to keep it that way.

I'm not overly excited for this. I will watch because I love Ghostbusters. But I'm not a fan of the team becoming kids, and I'm also not huge on re-using Gozer.

That second one is a little more forgivable though, since its probably a decent way to tie in the new team with Egon and the older Ghostbusters.

I can't wait, Ghostbusters was mega in the 80s and I for one loved it. Love the look of the trailer. Moving forward if you do t like the look of it, dont watch it rather than spreading hate for it

This looks fun. The kids being so young makes me a little nervous. First trailer was better.

@sKeemAn - The only thing I'm not thrilled about is a young starring cast. I'm not at all concerned that they won't be good, I'm just not always crazy with kids-are-the-heroes plotlines.

@MosquitoFarmer - Agreed. Another adult in could help. Rudd is not included. Maybe a cameo from the original members could help. Ernie Hudson still looks good for his age.

I thought this trailer was great! Yes, the editing was a little frantic, but the movie comes out very soon. This trailer was supposed to flesh out what we saw in the previous teaser, but just hit a little harder to get us hype. It did all of that for me. But they already had my money.

Now the big question I have to ask myself is: Do I want to see a picture of the OG Ghostbusters in uniform before the movie comes out?

That's a BIG NO from me, I think. Please save that reveal for the movie, Sony! I don't think they should really show much more for this film now.

Crazy idea: Maybe get the old Ghostbusters actors to do press tour appearances together to kinda let you know they're in it. I could only imagine Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, and Ernie Hudson on live TV together.
