Sony Pictures has released an international trailer for Ghostbusters: Afterlife, and while a few shots are recycled from previous promos, this teaser comprised almost entirely of new footage.
When the review embargo lifted last week, many critics took issue with how much Afterlife relied on fan-service and revisiting well-known scenarios from the original movies, and the marketing team appears to have taken this on board... by dialling the nostalgia all the way up to 11 for this new trailer!
We hear an updated version of the classic theme as our young heroes chase spooks in the Ecto-1, there are several mentions of Egon (the late Harold Ramis), and the return of one of the first film's Terror Dogs. In fact, right at the end we get a recreation of the scene in which Louis Tully (Rick Moranis) discovers one of the preternatural pooches in his closet.
While this will likely prove to be divisive, we have a feeling a lot of Ghostbusters fans are going to lap it up!
From director Jason Reitman and producer Ivan Reitman, comes the next chapter in the original Ghostbusters universe. In Ghostbusters: Afterlife, when a single mom and her two kids arrive in a small town, they begin to discover their connection to the original ghostbusters and the secret legacy their grandfather left behind.
Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, Sigourney Weaver, and Annie Potts have all been confirmed to reprise their roles from the original movies, but we still don't know exactly how they'll be reintroduced.
Ghostbusters: Afterlife is set to blast into theaters on November 11, 2021.
