That's a wrap on Scream 5!
Paramount Pictures and Spyglass Media Group have officially announced the end of filming this morning, and have also revealed the sequel's official title, which is... Scream!
This moves away from their typical order of sequel titles - Scream 2, Scream 3, Scream 4 - and instead follows a recent horror trend started by Halloween (2018), likely signaling a new beginning for the beloved horror franchise. Also, considering the meta-horror nature of the films, it's quite possible that the decision to drop the number was very deliberately made as a call-back to that revamp as well as the numerous other horror remakes in the works.
Neve Campbell will headline the ensemble cast, reprising her role as Sidney Prescott, with her franchise co-stars Courteney Cox and David Arquette set to return as Gale and Dewey Riley, respectively. Marley Shelton will also return as Deputy Judy Hicks from the last installment, while Roger L. Jackson will once again voice Ghostface.
Newcomers to the franchise include Melissa Barrera (Vida; Dos Veces Tú), Jenna Ortega (Jane the Virgin; Iron Man 3), Jack Quaid (The Boys; The Hunger Games), Dylan Minnette (Prisoners; 13 Reasons Why), Mason Gooding (Booksmart; Love, Victor), Mikey Madison (Once Upon a Time... In Hollywood; Better Things), Jasmin Savoy Brown (The Leftovers; For The People), Kyle Gallner (Smallville; American Sniper), and newcomer Sonia Ammar.
Radio Silence duo Matthew Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett (Ready or Not) directed the fifthquel with a screenplay from James Vanderbilt (Zodiac; The Amazing Spider-Man) and Guy Busick (Ready or Not; Castle Rock). While franchise creator Kevin Williamson was not involved with the screenplay, he will still serve as an executive producer.
