Karl Urban Confirms Judge Dredd Rumor

Karl Urban Confirms Judge Dredd Rumor

While taking exclusively to MTV at SDCC, Urban said things are "Lookin good" for him putting ol Grouchy's helmet on in a Judge Dredd reboot...

When MTV asked him about the rumor first reported by Bleeding Cool, Urban responded..

"Yeah, that's correct, that's a big rumor going on."

"I can't say too much at this point but it's lookin' good."

Apparently Urban has been a long time fan of the character, adding that he had been reading since he was a teenager..

"[He is a] phenomenal iconic comic book character, so it's a world I know and it would be a privilege and a pleasure to be able to bring that to life,"

Urban also spoke to Film School Rejects about it..

Yeah, I can’t say too much about it, but I have been offered the role and we’ve been having discussions. We’re working on it.”

Quickly after that, I asked if Urban saw some of the excellent concept art they’ve been working on, “Yeah, it’s phenomenal. I’ve been reading Dredd in one form or another for twenty-five years.”

Lastly, when I asked about what comics they’re drawing from he couldn’t say specifically, but what he did end on telling me was, “I am the law.”

Awesome! I think he will do a great job, if it all works out of course.

He'll be better than Stallone and atleast he's lesser known enough to keep that helmet on.

He will do ok if he just remembers to keep the helmet on!
Altought there would have been better choices like
Gerry Butler, Josh Brolin, Ray Stevenson and even Michael Fassbender who thou fits better in the role of Judge Death!

As I said before, it's not a character that I care all that much about but I'd watch it! Urban seems like a decent choice, although there's another comic book related role that I think he's a little better suited to...

I wouldn't mind if Urban does it, he is a great actor. He just needs to bulk up a bit like how Chris Hemsworth did for Thor then he is perfect.

Josh@ agree wholeheartedly!

Karl Urban would have the intensity that Johnny
Blaze needs to make his persona come alive in
a movie! Nic Cage was pretty damm flat!

I hope the movie-makers and Urban can make this
Judge Dredd movie look more like the comic books!

I've never read the comics so I can't say if Urban would be good but....if the previews look cool I might see it.

Don't mind KARL, but prefer BUTLER or STEVENSON!

Yeah, he's a better GHOST RIDER or CAPTAIN MARVEL even, but doesn't scream DREDD!

Good call, Josh :)) As for Dredd, he's not my first choice but we'd all be lucky to have him!

Hey all, ive been on this site for a while, checking it all day every day, but just now posting my first. Thought Id contribute by doin some work.

Im not a huge follower of Dread, but I do like the idea of Urban playing him. I put a quick manip to show how he could look. (I had to add a little lip curl to give him a bit of the Judge look)

Funny thing about Judge Dread is that everyone starts to look the same under the helmet, so I think looks has less to do with it than acting chops, and I think Urban definitely has those.

Never read the comic, but I love the judge dredd mythos, would like to see an accurate storyline from the comic, so I can properly see what I've missed.
Shaman
Shaman - 7/23/2010, 8:16 AM
FullAmpleSally- Cool manip, but the thing is that even with the helmet on, Urban doesn't have that lip curl. The lip curl makes it look like it's not Urban. And isn't the lip curl Stallone's and not Dredd's? :P But great work none the less. It doesn't even look like it was shopped! Very clean work my friend :)
FullAmpleSally
FullAmpleSally - 7/23/2010, 8:32 AM
@Shaman, thanks! and I agree. I was think the same thing about the lip being very stallone.

I do think Urban is missing the strong jawline and chin that make Dread so unique.

I definitely see it more with LEEE777's photo of Stevenson.
Shaman
Shaman - 7/23/2010, 8:49 AM
FullAmpleSally- Too true, my friend! That is one of the reasons why Stevenson is my #1 pick for Dredd ;)

But talent wise, Urban will sell it no doubt ;)

I hope they get a great director and make Urban look f*cking big and mean, that he would scare the sh*t to the pants when he speakes!:) That is the Judge Dredd i know!!:D Stevenson or Butler would have been my choice for the role thou!
