"DREDD takes us to the wild streets of Mega City One, the lone oasis of quasi-civilization on Cursed Earth. Judge Dredd (Karl Urban) is the most feared of elite Street Judges, with the power to enforce the law, sentence offenders and execute them on the spot - if necessary. The endlessly inventive mind of writer Alex Garland and the frenetic vision of director Pete Travis bring DREDD to life as a futuristic neo-noir action film that returns the celebrated character to the dark, visceral incarnation from John Wagner and Carlos Ezquerra's revered comic strip."

What do you think about them dropping the "Judge" from the title? Is this a good idea or will it perhaps confuse fans of the character and regular movie-goers alike? Share your thoughts in the usual place!

Neo-Noir sounds interesting.

Dread Dredd.

I think "Dredd" as a title has an ominous ring to it.

The Dredd news keeps rolling in...

The title "Dredd" makes me think that this may be a strong character piece. I can even start imagining the poster with the word "DREDD" in large, deconstructive style, bold print.

Thanks guys! :)

Personally, I think that "DREDD" sounds very cool! I've not read a single comic book featuring the character but this is quickly becoming one of my most anticipated CBM's coming out in the next two years. And the synopsis? I have only two words for how awesome that sounds: [frick] yeah.

so far i'm liking everything i hear about this. I wonder what kind of voice Urban is going to use for Dredd. Part of me hopes he does a scowling clint eastwood voice, but i'd also be afraid that would be too cheesy sounding if he didn't do it right.

DREDD sounds awesome in my ears!:D

Robert Garlen@ "So, do you feel yourself lucky punk?!" I would laugh my ass off, if Dredd would say that in the film with Eastwood´s voice!:D lol

If they stick close to the comics this could be a really cool project. At first I was a little wary about it, but now I'm definitely interested.

I like the name change. What concerns me is the budget. 45 million doesn't buy you much these days and for a movie that takes place in a superhuge city from the future shouldn't be skimpy on the sets and cgi. They better be very thrifty.

& in South Africa $45 million can by u quite alot. That's why D9 could have sum pretty good shots. Shooting is cheaper in SA & you can spend more on effects in post production. D9 is so far probably the best sci-fi movie shot here.

I actually liked the Stallone version, and I don't care what anyone says about that.

But I'm also really looking forward to this one.

It might not actually be called "DREDD". Sometimes in articles, especially deeper down the article, after they've already mentioned the full title, i.e. "JUDGE DREDD", the author of the article will skip the formalities of dropping the full name again and just shorten it.

EX.: LORD OF THE RINGS was directed by Peter Jackson. RINGS went on to become one of the highest grossing movies...

I could imagine seeing a movie poster with just Dredd in big letters with a dark background and maybe a shot of a city or some recognizable uniform piece like a badge or helmet. With a good trailer it could work.
