Kevin Tsujihara Named CEO Of WARNER BROS.

Remember that article a few months back about the divisiveness at Warner Bros. Studios? Things appear to be righting themselves as Kevin Tsujihara has been announced as the lead figure at the movie studio.

Kevin Tsujihara was just announced as the next CEO of Warner Bros. Entertainment. He will assume the position March 1. Former CEO Barry Meyer will remain as chairman through 2013.

The competition for the leadership position atop Warner Bros. was cited as a significant factor in the studio's inability to get a Justice League movie and other DC Comics properties up and running for feature film adaptations. It was thought that Motion Pictures Group President Jeff Robinov weighed taking risks with superhero films too risky after the lack of success with Green Lantern and wished to prevent any failures while he was a contender for the CEO position. Now that Home Entertainment Group President Kevin Tsujihara has assumed the role we could see more risk-taking and development from WB, particularly on the superhero front. Although, the other side to that earlier discussion was that if Robinov didn't get the position he could decide to leave the studio. We'll have to wait and see how the recent hiring effects the Motion Pictures Group. Overall, even if Robinov leaves, I'd have to say this is a positive as there's now a clear-cut leader atop WB. Television Group President Bruce Rosenblum was also up for the position.

Here's the official Press Release:
Time Warner Inc. (NYSE: TWX) Chairman and CEO Jeff Bewkes and Warner Bros. Chairman and CEO Barry Meyer today announced that Kevin Tsujihara will become the next Chief Executive Officer of Warner Bros. Entertainment. Mr. Tsujihara will become CEO beginning March 1, 2013, succeeding Mr. Meyer, who will remain as Chairman through 2013.

In making the announcement Mr. Bewkes said, “Kevin is one of the most effective and respected executives within Time Warner, and the right leader to ensure Warner Bros.’ preeminence into the future. He brings the perfect combination of strategic thinking, financial discipline, digital vision, and management style to build on Warner Bros.’ track record of success under Barry Meyer.”

Mr. Meyer added, “In working with Kevin for nearly 20 years, I’ve come to know and value a talented executive with a passion for this company and its people. He has skillfully guided one of the most complex businesses at Warner Bros. during a time of transition in the home entertainment sector, and has a deep appreciation and respect for the films and TV shows we create. Kevin has a rare combination of extraordinary business acumen and a love for the art of storytelling, and I’m confident he will be a great leader for Warner Bros.”

Over the next several months, Mr. Meyer and Mr. Tsujihara will work together with other members of Warner Bros. senior executive team, including Warner Bros. Television President Bruce Rosenblum and Warner Bros. Pictures President Jeff Robinov, to ensure an orderly transition.

As President of Warner Bros. Home Entertainment Group since 2005, Mr. Tsujihara currently oversees the company’s home video, digital distribution, videogames, anti-piracy, and emerging technology operations.

Mr. Tsujihara said, “It is an honor to have the opportunity to lead this storied business. We’re at a pivotal moment in the histories of Hollywood and entertainment: technology is changing the canvas we use to create theatrical releases; home entertainment is rapidly evolving; and the definition of television now includes viewing across a wide range of devices and services. But in my mind one thing remains clear and constant: Warner Bros.’ unmatched ability to tell stories that inspire, educate, and entertain global audiences. We are extremely fortunate to have strong relationships with some of the industry’s most gifted talent and together we will continue to use those relationships, our scale, and our passion to build on Warner Bros. great legacy.”

Mr. Tsujihara joined Warner Bros. in 1994 as Director, Special Projects, Finance to assist in the management of the company’s interest in Six Flags. Across his nearly two decades with the company he has served as Executive Vice President, Corporate Business Development & Strategy, Warner Bros. Entertainment and, Executive Vice President, New Media, responsible for the oversight of all Warner Bros.’ new media endeavors.

Mr. Tsujihara received his bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Southern California and his MBA from Stanford University. He sits on the Board of Directors for the MPAA, City Year Los Angeles, an education focused, nonprofit organization, the Los Angeles Sports & Entertainment Commission, Kabam, the Verdugo Hills Hospital Foundation, and the Entertainment Software Association.

Well congratulations on becoming CEO. Now you just have to make sure JL turns out great. So make the team seven team members not five. Also green light Del Toro's Dark Universe. I want to see what happens with those DC characters.

I read that the incessant feud between these morons - Tsujihara, Rosenblum and Robinov, all fighting for the seat of CEO - was what was keeping the WB projects from thriving as well as they should. Maybe now things will finally pick up in the DC films department.

[frick] that rumor that came out! You already have the lineup for the movie DC, don't deter from it. Don't get loads of people into the New 52, and then not put the characters in the movie. (Aquaman and Cyborg)

@Kjo0212 - Thanks!

Oh, lol, I didn't realize that! Well then I guess MOS 3 will be during Phase 2, if the series has room to continue then MOS 4 during Phase 4, or a World's Finest movie, I should've included that lol.

I think the main 5 need trilogies to show their importance and they have the most stories to tell IMO. But it also depends on each characters popularity after the release of JL.

I guess there was never any chance of Diane Nelson getting the job. I remember Diane (or someone) saying they may walk out if they were not chosen for the position, either way we could see considerable changes in how Warner Bros handles DC entertainment.

All WB has been able to pull off in the past several years is prove that their head honchos are fricking retarded. These ass-hats couldn't make a decent film franchise even if the greatest writers and producers on the planet did it for them for free.

They are utter idiots who haven't a clue how to do any of this. They are sheltered, out of touch with their audiences, and ignorant as all hell as the their properties' potential.

Maybe this new guy will get the ball rolling in the right direction, but somehow I doubt it. As screwed up an organization as WB is, all him being in charge proves is that he's an even bigger shithead who they all thought was CEO material.

A bunch of shitheads do NOT produce a leader who isn't also a shithead.

Case in point, all congressional and presidential elections in the past 20 years.

Want to fix it?

FIRE EVERYBODY and start over. These people are dumbasses, pure and simple. Time for a system flush.
