Matthew Vaughn To Direct Mark Millar's Superior Before Kick-Ass 2?

According to Millar, the upcoming comic book is already recieving interest from studios while the director has the choice of helming either Kick-Ass 2 or Superior once he's done with X-Men: First Class...

Mark Millar has quickly become one of the most prolific and popular comic book writers of today thanks to bo both his critically acclaimed work for Marvel and his excellent creator owned work. Two of the latter have already been adapted to film (Kick-Ass and Wanted) while Nemesis is currently in pre-production with Tony Scott directing and Johnny Depp and Brad Pitt both favourites to star. Now, it seems that Millar is already lining up his and artist Lenil Francis Yu's Superior for the big screen as he revealed earlier today on his Twitter page.

"Sent Superior 1 to some buds last night and two informal offers from studios already. This is looking good."

Most interesting though was the fact that he went on to tell his followers that it's up to X-Men: First Class director Matthew Vaugh to decide whether or not he wants to adapt this, Kick-Ass 2 or perhaps even something else altogether!

"I've promised Matthew Vaughn a first pass at Superior though. We're going to talk next week whether it's this, KA2 or something else next."

"Vaughn and I will be doing lots of head-scratching between Superior and Kick-Ass 2 next week."

Which of these movies would you most like to see Vaughn direct? Either way, it's clear that as soon as he's done with the new X-Men movie from Fox, he'll be pretty busy with helming yet another of Mark Millar's comic book creations whose character will seemingly be dominating the big screen alongside Marvel and DC for the forseeable future!

@Anil Rickly
I doubt this'll come out first though. There's nothing green lit or planned just Millar talking about his ego again.
Oh and I enjoyed Nemesis, but it was only 2 issues so nothing concrete yet.

As if Miller's ego needed another boost. This is just getting crazy. He writes a lot of pretty good stuff, but a movie already? After 1 issue?

I have a feeling that Kick-Ass 2 is going to end up like Sin City, and all of the Kick-Ass actors are going to be to old to return to their parts and they'll recast with a different director. I have no evidence or anything, just a paranoid feeling that I hope is wrong.

In all honesty, there are very few writers who produce such great material that movie studios want to buy the rights before they're even published and even less who get the chance to be interviewed on such a regular basis...can any of you say that if you were Millar, you wouldnt do exactly the same thing?

Sure, Wanted was a dreadful adaptation (hopefully he'll keep a closer eye on these movies now) but if Nemesis and Superior are both able to match the quality of Kick-Ass, I for one think we're lucky to be getting all these great movies alongside what Marvel and DC are producing! I look forward to seeing more Millar creations on the big screen!

Oh, and I hope that unlike Kick-Ass (where the entire second half of the movie was almost entirely different) Millar will have a finished story before he lets any of these studios start writing scripts...no more jetpacks!!! :P

Sorry Josh but i somewhat disagree. Yes i would totally trip AS MUCH as Millar but i wouldn't open my mouth left, right and centre anytime something comes to mind. The man's a walking tabloid! What happened to his irish trainspotting idea? What happened to his Superman trilogy? It's already under a huge pile of "ideas" he has. See what i mean? Goyer's and Gayman's writing is as sought after as Millar's but do they twit/blog/interview every week like Millar does, for any given brainfart that might pop up? Not in a million years. The earth's atmosphere can hardly contain Millar's ego anymore. They're planning to send him to Uranus LOL

Bottom line is, we would ALL LOVE to see more of his stuff on screen. But we don't ALL wanna hear about every damn idea that doesn't make it. Point is, the man should just shut up till he gets a damn check. Next we'll hear, he'll be writing a weekly column for the Sun!

Gaston & dellamorte1872- Touché! And i honestly don't know what "more" Superior would have that Captain Marvel doesn't, in terms of box office piotential. In my own opinion, i don't even think Captain Marvel has what it takes to win the BO, let alone Superior. I guess we'll see what the book is like when it gets published.

As long as he's makin' comic book movies, I don't care what he does next :)

I read a lot of comic books, but I've just never picked up anything by Millar so i don't really know about his work.

But it is a little lame when they make a movie before the story is even finished. Like Scott Pilgrim, even though it was incredible, probably would have benefitted from a couple aspects of the last storyline. He should at least let the comic book come out before he lets them make a movie.

Shaman: Lol, some fair points there bud! :P As far as I know, Millar is working on that Scottish superhero movie (or was it a TV show!?) and has in fact been filming it this week according to his Twitter page where he also mentions that he's directing. Funnily enough, he's keeping the whole thing very secretive so it should interesting to see how it turns out! I'd just like to see him do more in the Marvel Universe, although the fact he's making so much money from all these creator owned projects probably makes that unlikely.

Superior certaintly seems VERY different from his other recent stuff but I'm sure that it'll have something that separates it from the Superman/Captain Marvel comparisons...either way, I'll need to read it before deciding whether it would make a good movie. I knew from the first few pages of Nemesis that it would make for an epic film and the news we've heard so far certaintly indicates that...Johnny Depp and Brad Pitt? Awesome.

grif- Well said :)

JoshW- Ah, well it's nice "not" to be hearing about it then LMAO!!! Good for Millar to keep some things a secret ;)

I agree that he certainly has good ideas most of the time so even though i'm sure he'd rock anything Marvel/DC, i find it kinda cool that his own work gets so much credit. But i fully understand your point of view, as a fan of pre-existing characters, it would be nice for him to throw his hat in a few other franchises than his own ;)
