NOVA Is Reportedly Being Developed As A Movie After All

Last we heard, Nova was going to be a Disney+ Special Presentation akin to Werewolf by Night, but the project is now reportedly being developed as a movie...

Details on Marvel Studios' plans for Nova have been few and far between since we learned that a project focusing on the character was (finally) in development earlier this year.

When the news first broke, the trades mentioned that Nova would likely be a Disney+ series, and more recently, a rumor did the rounds which claimed that it'd actually be a Special Presentation akin to Werewolf by Night and the Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special.

Now, insider MyTimeToShineHello is reporting that the cosmic hero's MCU debut will actually take the form of a movie.

The Nova Corps were introduced in Guardians of the Galaxy, which led to speculation that Richard Rider would eventually find his way into the GOTG franchise. James Gunn showed little interest in the character, but the Nova film - if that is indeed what it turns out to be - will most likely spin-out from Thanos decimating most of the Corps in the build-up to Avengers: Infinity War.

The source Tweets out a lot of scoops, and while some of them have proved to be accurate in the past, it's best not to put too much stock into this for the time being.

Last we heard, Moon Knight scribe Sabir Pirzada was penning the script.

I was actually kind of hoping for a special presentation for his intro. The idea of these hour-long "specials" are interesting, because you get the plot of a movie but lower stakes and a lot of fluff cut out of it. You're not beholden to put butts in seats, so you can be a bit more experimental in the formula.

Either way though, I'm excited for Nova. Been waiting a while for him.

MTTSH has been on a roll today and yesterday. She also hammered down on Quake returning, probably in Secret Invasion

Hope this is true, would prefer he get a full trilogy. You got a whole movie for that invasion of Xander, could even bring Josh brolin back as the villian.

@Taonrey - that would be really cool. The first film with rider mentoring Sam, culminating in his death maybe during the invasion and then continuing with Sam as Nova

@The72nd - eh... I probably want one more movie before Richard died, then have Sam as the lead in the third film.

Cuz after making the entire corps look like incompetent knobs in GotG, that’s gonna make perfect sense. And I’m someone one really likes the GotG movies, but that was a shortsighted and silly decision.

@RolandD - i'd assume big news would start coming out jan 3rd onwards, esp. with the huge (?) dc slate announcement

@tmp3 - True but I remember the days when they used to not rely on rumors all of the time.

@tmp3 - not even Twitter. This site literally just gets stories from subreddits every single day. 90% of the articles here come from news found on subreddits 12-24 hours prior.
