The Hollywood Reporter has learned that Dave Callham has been tapped to rewrite the script for one of Universal Pictures' upcoming Monsters Universe movies, The Wolf Man.

Aaron Guzikowski (Prisoners) penned the film's first draft, which doesn't have a director or star attached just yet, although last we heard, Dwayne Johnson (Fast 8), a.k.a. The Rock, was heavily rumored to be in the running for the titular monster role. Alex Kurtzman & Chris Morgan, who are overseeing the entire Monsters Universe, will produce the feature, which will reimagine the 1941 horror classic.

The much-awaited Monsters Universe will finally launch next June with the arrival of The Mummy, which stars megastar Tom Cruise (Jack Reacher: Never Go Back) in the lead role alongside Annabelle Wallis (King Arthur: Legend of the Sword), Sofia Boutella (Star Trek Beyond), Jake Johnson (Jurassic World), Primetime Emmy-winner Courtney B. Vance (The People v. O.J. Simpson), and Academy Award-winner Russell Crowe (The Nice Guys) as Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde.

The reimagined universe, which is based on Universal's original Monster Movies shared universe that ran from 1931-1951, has plans to reintroduce Dracula, Frankenstein, the Wolf Man, the Invisible Man, and the Bride of Frankenstein. The films are still in their pre-production stages, so not much else is known yet, but what we do know is that Universal has been recruiting some serious A-list talent, having already landed Cruise and then signing Johnny Depp (Pirates of the Caribbean) to portray the Invisible Man & Academy Award-winner Javier Bardem (Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales) to play Frankenstein's monster.

Callaham's past writing credits include Doom & The Expendables and he also has a story credit on Gareth EdwardsGodzilla. His other upcoming projects include the horror comedy sequel Zombieland 2, the video game movie adaptation Mortal Kombat, and the Mila Kunis-starrer Jackpot
