Adam West Reprises His Role As Batman!!

Adam West Reprises His Role As Batman!!

From this Collider Interview we find out the good news that Adam West is taking on the challenge of being The Batman one more time.

This from Collider.com:

“Julie Newmar is playing Martha Wayne, and playing Bruce’s father Thomas Wayne will be Adam West! I think they're VERY appropriate parents for Batman… I should probably NOT be revealing this.”

Put these two pieces together and we have Adam West reprising his role as Batman for next season’s Batman: Brave and the Bold!"

What Collider is talking about here is that the Batman: Brave and The Bold team is adapting stories from actual events in the comics for the next season. This is news to me as well as I did not know Thomas Wayne put the cowl on before Bruce did. Sound off below and let me know your thoughts and or knowledge of this event in the comics.

thomas wayne wore a "batman" like costume at a costume ball once in bruces childhood. i used to have an issue where this happened, and thieves tried to rob the ball and thomas stopped them as "batman". i don't know if this is where they are getting the story from, but i have seen it in a comic before.

It's an old silver age story.

found it. it was the untold legonds of the batman, no.1. this was a three part mini series put out by dc in the early 90's. the first issue starts with bruce recieving a package containing the remains of this costume that was being held in the batcave. it's an interesting series looking at the histories of bruce, dick, and even alfred and how they all came to be. not a bad series, but not nessescarily a must have.

They should have him voice Batman/ Bruce Wayne in this series. His version of Batman is similiar to the one in the Brave and the Bold

If it isnt from the Untold legends of Bat Man this its from this bullshit.

""Batman R.I.P."" story line.

The bullshit:

During the Batman R.I.P. storyline, accusations are levied against Thomas Wayne. Claims arise that Martha's parents, always unconvinced about Thomas' intentions, hired a detective to prowl around his life. Much later a man claiming to be the detective returns, giving Commissioner Gordon a dossier in which Thomas Wayne is described as living a dual life: a respected and honest doctor in public, a drunk and abusive husband in private, indulging in orgies and drugs, and addicting Martha herself to heroin to get their marriage going, thus becoming able to embezzle her part of the Kane household.

The hired detective then formulates a new theory about Thomas' death: when Thomas discovered that his wife, becoming accustomed to a life of excesses, betrayed him with his butler, no more certain about Bruce Wayne's real parentage, and willing to get revenge over his wife and further hide the secret of his dual life, he used a hired gun to kill her and fake his own death in front of the little Bruce.

Gordon dismisses the final theories, and keeps the dossier private. While speaking to Alfred Pennyworth, Dr. Simon Hurt claims to be Thomas Wayne, even wearing the original Batman costume worn by Thomas Wayne, and accuses Alfred of fathering Bruce, although Alfred dismisses Dr. Hurt's purported identity. In the final issue of Batman R.I.P., Dr Hurt still claims to be Thomas Wayne, the black glove, but Batman refutes Hurt's identity, identifying Hurt as Mangrove Pierce, who has been responsible for nearly every event that has involved the Batmen of All Nations (which partially involves Batman).

As he escapes in a helicopter, Hurt tries to blackmail Batman into serving him by threatening to release pictures and documents showing his parents and Alfred to be perverts and criminals to the worldwide media, but Batman rejects this offer, instead jumping onto the helicopter, bringing it down in an explosion, with neither Hurt or Batman being seen for at least six months after the crash.

@Superman4. No this series is worse than West's take on Batman, At least West had concurent plot and some character development.

Not a fan of batman tbatb.
We get a serious batman movie and the animation dept decide to go all campy 60's style on us. The dark knight dvd animation was hot as fire. I was looking forward to some of that action.

This is what Batman animation should look like.

HAWK - "...At least West had concurent plot and some character development." West? ADAM WEST? Are you sure we're talking about the same thing? That show in the 60's was as far from having concurrent plot-lines and character development as from here to Saturn!

We need Bruce Timm to do another animated series of Batman. Something like the movie DK and Justice League Unlimited. Not this campy 60's style crap. I admit that I watched it and thought it was the best thing in the world, until Bruce Timm took over and created the batman animated series. Which was good.

I love Adam West but he was in a comedy about Batman, there was nothing serious about it. But if he plays Bruce's dad in the cartoon, that would be awesome. I hope he runs around trying to get rid of a bomb for half an episode! That would be briliant. Those bloody ducks!

Also, Adam rocks in Family Guy. I love him as Mayor Adam West.

"Hey, baby. Want some Adam West penis?"

"Oh god I love this song, and I love it when amateurs sing the lyrics but I hate baseball cards!"

I'm I the only one who remember how bad Batman TAS was I mean there was no character development every story was a stand alone and the only thing good about the show was Batman Villains

Batman the Animated series was BAD!?!?!? Are you serious Supermike? Who cares if they were stand alone it was for entertainment not to go in depth into Batman's life. The [frick]ing show won Emmys for god sakes. The voice acting was superb, the animation was flawless, and the stories were entertaining.
They were episodes of Batman being Batman. Solving crimes, taking down villians and protecting Gotham. Not every show has to be a repeat origin/development of Bruce Waynes life.

Those shows being a big part of my child hood, you have personaly offended me. Find a cliff and delightfuly trip off of it.

Hey I loved Adam West as a kid I'll say again as a kid. I do think that West should have some part in something dealing with Batman either animated or live action. Adan West is a 60's BATMAN icon hey he was the only BATMAN FOR OVER TWENTY YEARS....so yea it's time to show West some love.

wow, i find it funny that the people that bash G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra because its not exactly staying true to the source are bashing Batman: Brave and The Bold for sticking to the source

Batman tas was and still is an amazing show, and there were episodes that had character development, god Mask of the Phantasm was one of the best Batman movies around for the longest time and it was a cartoon, my 3 year old daughter watches and loves it. so you can just crawl in a hole and die of rot supermike.

Personally, I love the Brave and the Bold. It's a fun show that reminds me of the Batman I grew up with as a kid (long before TAS). There's an episode with Batmite that may well be the best half hour of animated Batman ever. Pull it up on YouTube if you haven't seen it. The central point of the story is that Batman has been around for a long time and there are many legitimate, but different, interpretations of the character. None is inherently the "only" Batman, or the "right" Batman. Like many long-running characters, he's changed with the times. I personally like the idea of a kid-friendly Batman that can let a new generation discover the same character that became a lifelong favorite of mine back in the days of the Adam West show, Super Friends, and the New Adventures. I enjoy a wide variety of Batman's stories, and a wide variety of "takes" on the character.

That said, I'll certainly grant that Brave & Bold takes some liberties with stories and characters I do NOT like. You regulars here should know by now how much I despise revisionism, and revisionist history like how they changed the origin of Plastic Man, and this thing with West, don't meet with my approval. Still, it's nice to see the show give a little respect to West, who certainly has his place in Batman's long and rich history. And I enjoy the show enough to forgive it its occasional lapses with canon.

Teabag, I wanted to also say I agree with you completely about Gotham Knight. That was the only one of the recent wave of DC animated films that I really didn't like. I thought the story was stupid and pointless.

GKnight had good moments.. the thing with manga-style is that if you don´t dig it, then its style won´t let you focus on the story.

i don´t think it was boring per se, perhaps a little slow, but i really liked it.

i think Shibazz said it better: "I like Gotham Knight so much i want to marry it!" lol! :-]

You know I'm one of the only people I know who is a big fan of Batman: Brave and the Bold. I think too many people tried to compare it to "The Animated Series". I love the fun camp feel of it. Its just as honest to the Batman character as the recent Batman films have been. I think the team behind Brave and the Bold has done a good job showcasing lesser known heros and villians, as well as adding in some moments just for the comic book fans.

@Supermike

The Emmy's were bad? Its the same categories to this day that it won under, nothings changed. The standards remain (relatively)the same for animation. Robot chicken and South park have won Emmy awards too. You really cannot make a valid point its terrible.

Once again your flat out wrong and your argument is like putting a tooth pick against a sword.
