The Problem
I know CBM.com is a site where we can express our creative-computer-casting abilities, but I really don’t see the majority of us exercising those portions. I definitely see a lot of users, pretty much, recycling trendy picks from other articles that have been posted before-maybe days or minutes prior to. No new or fresh ideas being brought to the fiction tier, just lazy alternatives. For instance, I see Andrew Garfield as the Blue Power Ranger… a lot…. Idris Elba as somebody black… Garrett Hedlund… John Hamm…Michael Fassbender… Michael C Hall as Matt Murdock, etc. Just a wave of inert casting that comes off to the reader as redundant. In essence, if your article is the same as the last user’s post, it’s been virtually lost in the massive pile of older-unread articles. So, why waste your time cloning?
Now of course, if your favorite actor is
actually in the running to play a character in a movie- by all means, show your support. Other than that- its just a hot banal mess, that the reader has to disregard.
The Solution
It’s unlikely that some big movie producer is going to read our articles anyway, but never forget that the full point of fan casting is to manifest intelligence, entertain, enjoy yourself and be unique. In contrast, think about musical artist today and notice whose style and swagger they try to imitate and how hugely noticeable it is (Lady Gaga-Madonna). Attempt to add or find something that would attract new readers. Also remember that race reversing, preferably any of the minority to the majority, is acceptable.
The following is a few suggestions of help:
-TV
You won’t get a 100% accurate cast choice, but you can find a fair share of talent on admired shows like soap operas.
-Gossip Magazines
This was an old technique I used some years ago, where I rummaged through (
Us, or People) and who ever had the right look for the character, ended up in my fancasts. But please be sure to study that thespian chosen, so you won’t end up having Jersey Shore as the Fantastic Four.
-Films
The more movies you watch, the more the brain catalogues these thespians and their performances to you knowing.
These modest suggestions are a lot more inventive than just, ‘oh- I like that choice. I’ll just save this guy’s image (cough-optimus) and use it for my cast’.
