According to Bloody-Disgusting, Channing Tatum (GI Joe, Public Enemies) has officially been cast to star in "The Darkness" film, based on the Garth Ennis, David Wohl and Mark Silvestri comic.

Plot: On the eve of his 21st birthday, Jackie was targeted for assassination by the don of the New York mafia, "Uncle" Paulie. He finds his body possessed by the darkness, a malevolent spirit that has inhabited his family for several generations, with the benefit of giving Jackie supernatural powers that feeds off the dark.

The new movie will be directed by the Pang brothers, the duo behind "The Messengers" and "Bangkok Dangerous."

Never heard of this comic and I'm not a fan of Channing Tatum.

I have read the comic and I would not have even thought he would even be a name attached to this film. He looks nothing like Jackie Estacado.

ok, in past few days ive been reading all the comments here in CBM, but now as a collector and reader of The Darkness comics i have to give my reaction,

WTF???????????!??!!????

why Channing Tatum???!?!?!???!?!? did they read the The Darkness comic book? i cannot imagine Channing playing Jackie Estacado. i always thought Jackie is a italian guy. i dunno what else to say..

Seriouesly NOOOOOOOOOOOO Ive been wanting to see a The Darkness movie for ages but if there not going to do it properly I would rather it didnt happen at all. Jackie was a mob enforcer before he became The Darkness Tatum dosnt look like he could scare a girl scout.

I hope that he stars a different role other than Jackie Estacado....I love THE DARKNESS comics...I have the first darkness ever made all the covers. The black cove is one of the rarest... at the time I picked it up didnt know crap about the character except that i had most of vol 1 and 2. Now I have all.

This movie is going to suck personally, because it seems like their going to follow the videgame than the actual comic...I'm disappointed and sad :(

ps: I would of totally loved to have had a shot at that role.

Just coz he's DUKE, so what this guy ain't a bad actor! Great news we're even hearing about a DARKNESS movie, hopefully it stays true to the comic an game! ; )

I see nowhere where it says he will be playing Jackie, all it says is he will "STAR" in it. Let's wait to see what the studio says, cuz this has to be a lie.

he is not anywhere near what the duke character was either but they cast him for that. being like the character apparently has nothing to do with casting people

Wow... things are REALLY looking up for The Magdalena feature with Luke Goss. Can't believe they went with Tatum... it would be like... like... casting Jason Lewis as Captain America!!! It's wraong... IT'S WRAOOOOUUNNNGGG!!!

I love how these studios get on an actor band wagon. Ooh, Tatum was just in this movie, let's get him in ours. Ooh, Megan Fox should play every character in our movie. Why not get some new, TALENTED actors and give them a break into the big biz?

I wounder if they are planing a Witchblade tie in for this, that would be sweet since they team up a lot and they have a huge background together not just as people but through the generations that there suits have been through.

[frick] no....the Darkness can't be played by some backstreet boy jack-ass honestly i think Antonio Banderas should play the Darkness...i you read the comic you might see what i'm talkin about...if Antonio grew his hair out agin like in Desperado he'd look exactly like Jackie Estacado...i think it would be kick-ass

hell yeah, he definitely looked like Jackie back in his desperado days, those movies were awesome as well.

@Keven@ that is true but look at the Wanted source material, now that is some off the wall shit, I know Darkness can get kinda off the wall too but since he controls the creatures I doubt they will take them out like they did with Wanted.

CDeadpool... I can see that, but Banderas is too old for that roll now. Isn't Jackie only suppossed to be 18 or 21 or something? Dont remember too well I only played the game. Cool story from what I could make of it.

yeah good game, much better comic with alot of good crossover characters one being witchblade. but just a horrible choice in a lead actor for this part.just not the dark edgy New York gangster with super powers from the graphic novels.

No offense, but I do not think Channing Tatum is a good actor, and he is not the right choice to play Jackie. I would totally prefer Milo Ventigmilia instead, at least he has the right look for playing Jackie. I hope Channing is cast for another part in the movie, but when they say he is going to STAR in the movie that can only mean he's playing Jackie Estacado (afterall, he is the STAR of the books).

They need an Italian actor, such as charismatic Raoul Bova
to play Jackie. Someone with intense eyes who can brood and pull off Jackie's odd/changeable moods. I've been a fan of the comic for years, loved the game... looking forward to the next game and the movie. Just hope they make it dark and intense enough. Screw PG13... you can't do a movie with demons and make it work without an R rating. Period. That's just how it is, trying will ruin it. I like Tatum, but not as a pick to play Jackie.
