With the recent theatrical release of "Surrogates" by Mandeville Films, the production company seems to be on the hot streak of acquiring rights to future releases such as "The Fighter" starring both Christian Bale and Mark Wahlberg along with two comic book adaptations...the first being "Cla$$war" and eventually "Alibi."
"Cla$$war" involves a super soldier program sponsored by the government, where the super soldier known as "The American" discovers the painful truth of the very program that created him.
The film will be co-produced by Rick Alexander of Alexander Content along with Mandeville's Todd Lieberman and David Hoberman.
Written by Rob Williams and art by Trevor Hairsine as well as Travel Foreman, Com.x published "Cla$$war" from 2002-2004, receiving praise upon its release.
Com.x was rather pleased with the film being optioned by Mandeville Films.
"We're very excited to be partnering with a production company that has a solid grasp of the comic book market," said Com.x publishers Eddie Deighton and Ben Shahrabani. "This is such an important title for us that we wanted to ensure it's treated with the sensitivity the material and its fans deserve. I can’'wait to see its heroes rocking the big screen."
For those not familiar with the term "option," in relation to the film industry, it's an agreement; contractually one at that, which involves the movie studio, production house or writer, where the producer is given the exclusive right to purchase the screenplay at a specific date in the future. So technically, it doesn't mean they have been given the right to 'use' said screenplay as yet. This comic book is said to be a cross between "Ultimates" and "The Authority." Being a big fan of both I should definitely check this series out to become more familiar with the story.
