COMICS: Mark Millar Unveils Superior!

The Kick-Ass writer has revealed his next comic book project that's set to "Marvelise" Superman...

Last month, I posted a series of cryptic teaser images for Mark Millar and Lenil Francis Yu's, Superior. At that time we knew nothing about the upcoming series, but Millar has now revealed a whole host of info about what we can expect!

According to Bleeding Cool, the series will focus on a 13-year-old boy with Multiple Sclerosis who transforms into an "an adult overpowered" hero. "Superior is in a lot of ways is the project I’ve wanted to write my entire life. It’s everything I love about those big bombastic kind of Superman/Captain Marvel heroes," Millar said.

"It’s got a lot of heart as well as the usual insane amount of violence. What I suppose I’ve done here really is kind of Marvelize Superman." And as for who we can expect to see this 'Marvelised Superman' face off against, below is Abraxas who Millar describes as "Darkseid Meets Brainiac Meets Darth Vader!"

Of course, it's worth remembering that Millar sold the movie rights to Kick-Ass before the comic book series was even finished and with a sequel in both print and film on the way (as well as rumours that the writer is considering sending his and Steve McNiven's Nemesis to the big screen at some point) it seems likely that Superior could be one of the next comic books we'll be heading out to watch at the cinema in a few years time!

He says Nemesis is like an evil version of Batman and this is a Marvelized version of Superman.I don't understand why he insists on comparing his creations to other established characters.

ANIL: Well said! :) This looks as amazing as everything else Mark Millar does! McNiven's art in Nemesis has been a little weak but the story has been great fun so far IMO! And I've loved his Ultimate Avengers so far - it's not on the same level as the original two volumes he did, but it's still great fun! Did you hear that he's planning Old Man Logan II with Marvel?

AWESOME!!!!! I CAN'T WAIT!!!!!!...wait...isn't the Sentry the Marvelized Superman???? oh well ITS MILLAR AND IT LOOKS AWESOME!!!!

@Josh..yeah I heard...maybe start up his own Avengers team with him and Hulk jr...I can't wait....I loved that storyline..I would like to see that done as a animated feature. Done in the style similar to the Black Freighter movie..but longer than 25 minutes

I just love how wrong nemesis is....everything it showcases is just all out crazy. Kidnapping the president, blowing up a building, killing dozens of police commissioners, gassing the PENTAGON!!!!, and his origin where his aunt and uncle hunted runaway children for sport. Whats next will he do, eat a baby? well Ultimate red skull tossed a baby out the window so maybe Millar one up himself and do that. I can't wait to see what happens next...I just hate it takes so long for issue to issue.

OK. First of all it's "talentless" -one word; second of all it was DC Comics that brought Millar into the American market with "Swamp Thing", not Marvel. His big break was on "The Authority" for crying out loud! And that was who? DC Comics.

Nice article Josh: I don't however, think this is a very original idea. Someone out there help me with this. Besides Bedrock wasn't there another Image character in the early 90's with a Superman powerset that was a kid that transformed like this?

Not to even mention Shazam.

Great scoop Josh!
This is starting to look and sound interesting. Can't wait to hear about it some more. :)

P.S.
That villain, Abraxas, reminds me of one of the EVAS from NGE, LOL.

Nice find Josh.

As many of the posters on here have said. Millar never disappoints. I love all of his stuff. Superior looks like it might just be awesome.

lol! @Anil: I knew you'd be all over this.

I'm sure this will be classic. Millar does a great job of taking old ideas and spinning them differently and specifically for today's audience. He got me back into comic books.

Great find Josh!

Unrelated: What do you guys think about Ultimate Punisher/U.S.Agent? I'm really hoping he gets killed off, but I'm actually liking the Ghost Rider. Oh, and why is this Golum-Spidy-Telepath even in the story? Seriously? And about the "Hulk's Mentor" guy--who is his 616 counterpart?

Welcome back Access!

I'll say it again because it bears repeating.

@Ace: I read on Wikipedia that Hyperion along with the rest of Squadron Supreme are supposed to be the Marvel counterparts of well known DC characters
