Joss Whedon's often rumored to be axed show "Dollhouse" may be following the creators other properties into the life saving realm of Darkhorse comics. although ratings for the television incarnation of Dollhouse have seen a decent climb in the past few showings the series continues to remain perilously close to the danger zone, outwardly flirting with cancellation. However news from this weekend's Baltimore Comic Con seems to suggest that the show may have comic-book life after potential death after all.
Prior to this weekend, Whedon has always been adament in his stance that "Dollhouse" would not translate well into the comic medium like his previous shows "Firefly", "Angel" and "Buffy" have. However during the Buffy panel at the Baltimore Comic con, he had this to say, "Dollhouse? There's a chance... When Joss first told me he was going to do the 'Dollhouse' show, I said 'Well, I know you don't want to do comic right away, but whenever you want to do then, we want to do them.' He said, 'Yeah, I just don't really see how it's a comic, but if we're gonna do it, I'll do it with you guys.' And then at San Diego this year, he said 'I know how we can do it as a comic.' And that's where we left it.".
With the transition into the realm of comics fans of Whedon's scifi drama can rest assured that there will be plenty of adventures for Echo in the future. In fact, as is the case with many scifi shows turned comics, many viewers may get to see a truer version of Whedon's vision simply because his creative ability will no longer be hampered by budgetary and network restraints. So fans of the show can look forward to seeing a greater range of scifi locals as well as the inclusion of many social themes that Fox would never allow Whedon to touch on in the show.
However it should be noted that this was a preliminary announcement and it has not been announced when he would begin work on the new comic, so don't go scouring the racks at your local comic shop just yet.
