Okay, boys, and girls... I think all of us want this but how is it possible? At least in the near future? Well, this is how I think it could happen.

Marvel should make this deal with Fox and Sony: Fox and Sony keep their rights for making films to all the characters they own, but Marvel buys the rights to make their own films with all of these characters. Therefore, they both can have the right to make their own films in their respective universes.

Now, I know this probably isn't a perfect plan, but nothing is perfect. And everyone wins in this plan, Fox and Sony still have the right to make their own films (plus a bonus cash with Marvel buying joint-rights to the characters film series), Marvel can make its own movies with their most popular characters, and the fans have just that much more CBMs to see (non fans aren't going to care which universe or whatever it is in, its just something to babysit the kids for a few hours). Also some will comment that it's too many films, that it's too many films, but I say is that a bad thing? For those that think it won't work because of over saturation, remember that comics have the same thing: the 616 universe, and the Ultimate universe. It's all about choices... you can choose which ever universe you like.

So what do you guys think? If you like this idea please contact Marvel! There are many ways to do so such as Twitter, mail, email.

Why don't Marvel just allow the companies distribution rights? Let them Co-produce the films together, and just merge them with the cinematic universe.

@Dynamo good thought! but doubt sony or fox would want that... they want their own film series their own way... this way both get what they want...

That sounds pretty good.
Although Dynamo's point is valid too...have Fox/Sony and Marvel co-produce, and make it possible for Marvel to bring the characters in their films, but Fox and Sony can still have the rights.

I thought of something like thus while ago, but never got around to write it down on here. Good to see someone else thinking along these line. It does seem somewhat unlikely to happen but then again you never know. Warner Brothers released their James Bond movie, Never Say Never Again with Sean Connery the same year that MGM and United Artists put out a Bond movie in the regular series with Roger Moore.

I agree with Dynamo. If they buy/co-own the rights and let the studios that currently own the characters co-produce or distribute the films, like Marvel Studios and Universal did with The Incredible Hulk, that's the only way I see a completely unified MCU happening anytime soon.
I'm actually hoping they made this deal with Sony already for The Amazing Spider-Man, and are just keeping the info that it's a part of the Marvel Universe a secret for the time being, just to give fans something to salivate over later.
But that's just wishful thinking, really.

i would be happy with sony & fox if they let marvel have more control of what goes into the films.

- galactus is galactus & not a cloud
- deadpool in costume
- x-men first class was actually the first class
- green goblin didn't look like a power ranger
- changes to costumes, country of origin & so on are a no no.

Talk about over saturation. It wouldnt work because then Sony could come out with a spider man movie one year and Marvel the next and the general public wouldnt know the difference. Not saying they are dumb but the Marvel logo would be on both of them and in order to get a trilogy out for both of them, there would be 6 movies in a 10 year span of just spider man...

Same thing with Fox. Fantastic Four and X men would be the same way. Could you imagine how convoluted it would get?

We could have 2 different Spider man, 2 different X men, and 2 different Fantastic Four movies in a 2 year span... thats 6 movies over the same three character groups in such a small time plus whatever Marvel is also releasing. It just wouldnt work over the long run because the general public would most likely see them all and then get bored not really knowing the difference besides one universe is connected and the other isnt...

I also feel like Fox and Sony would want a fair trade if this deal was made. That could mean Cap, Thor, and Iron Man become Fox and Sony movies. I dont think they would share their properties with Marvel unless they got a fair deal.

Oh and lastly, if they were willing to sell half of the rights back to Marvel, dont you think there would be a price at that point to buy the full rights back?

ironpool007 - 5/5/2011, 2:02 PM
@Dynamo: I like your idea too. As long as the X-Men films get a reboot. We don't need the current direction that they are headed in ruining the good reputation Marvel Studios has. Other properties though, like Sony's The Amazing Spider-Man(assuming they are good), can keep their currention story arcs going, and Marvel will find a nice way to bring it all together.

guys you don't get it i doubt sony, fox, marvel (which is Disney) would want to co-own something, that's why the respective universes would work... also over saturation i doubt any of us would mind, neither would the causal audience as they wouldn't care about the universe thing, or that they would be able to choose the universe that they like just like ultimate and 616 it's all about choices...
Hellsing
Hellsing - 5/5/2011, 2:17 PM
you make the people that don't read comic's sound retarded, people ain't that stupid. I think they might realise when theres two different guys playing spidey virtually at the same time, why would they want co-own it.studio's want complete control over there potential franchises, especially now.
LMFA0
LMFA0 - 5/5/2011, 2:17 PM
The general audiance doesnt look at universes though. They see Marvel and they see Xmen and they think its one in the same. Only people that really care, like us, know the difference.
superotherside
superotherside - 5/5/2011, 2:23 PM
@Hellsing i'm just saying that the casual audience won't care about the universe stuff, it won't make any difference to them, they would see it no matter what...

@LMFAO i agree so they won't even care, if this happened... btw i made an update...

I could see Sony doing it but Fox being the pricks they are will probably not.

@otherside- NICE article buddy and good brainstorming on this particular issue.

Hopefully something can be worked out. Spidey was always one of my fav marvel-characters. I would LOVE to see what Marvel could do with him! ;D

Alas...you should call up Marvel and bring up this idea to them. There is a number for them somewhere, my friend found it.

this ones a hard one to debate.....disney just needs to offer up ridiulously ammounts of money to buy them back...thats how its gonna happen if it ever does.....becuase at this point sony isnt havin any problems putting out movies like warner is with Superman.

hmmm good point and so is Dynamos.....but i awhile back i had this idea, Marvel owns the TV rights to ALL their characters so why not just make X-Men and SPiderman live action tv series in the Marvel Cinematic Universe?
ironpool007
ironpool007 - 5/5/2011, 3:47 PM
Unfortunately, all of this would be very difficult as well. Disney would want toatal control, and not let have FOX or Sony have any.

1) This would get confusing.

2) The corporate suits wouldn't DARE share rights.

It's a good plan, though.
mawilli4
mawilli4 - 5/5/2011, 5:10 PM
fox and sony would lose too much money. and it would be confusing as hell. what marvel should do is arrange a partnership with them. and then whichever company and marvel could approve the script too and then link them in the MCU.

Destroyer14 - 5/5/2011, 6:14 PM
Nice work otherside. I like that idea. Hmm. I doubt Sony would let Marvel make their own Spider-Man film, however, another idea is to buy the rights to the character to use in future crossover films, such as a future Avengers movie.
NERO
NERO - 5/5/2011, 9:47 PM
I disagree witht this, for one. He's proposing a a cinematic version of a multiverse, Marvel putting out Spider-Man and X-Men, etc while at the same time FOX and Sony put out theirs. CBMs won't last long as a genre with that much oversaturation. Like LMFAO said, you can argue all day about fans and 616 vs Ultimate, but the truth is whenit comes to the average joe those distinctions won't matter they'll just see another film with the same character they saw earlier that summer or the summer before. Imagine a summer with two Spider-Man films it just too much. After a while CBMs will simply flood the summer and for a few summers that won't be a bad thing, but after several summers with potentially four or five CBMs with big name characters, the same characters, seen over and over people will just get tired of it and stop going to see any of them. When that happens the era of the CBM will be over and over for many years.

If its through distribution like with The Incredible Hulk then yea id love to see them merge The Amazing Spider-Man and the FF reboot into the MCU... Fox can keep that mess an X-Men universe though.

I dont want two companies making the same thing at the same time, thats just kinda silly.

ugh, no offense, but i'm so tired of hearing this issue. Marvel/Disney and Feige have said they have no intention of buying the rights back.

its not going to happen guys...
