Kevin Smith Funding CLERKS 3 On Own Dime

Kevin Smith Funding CLERKS 3 On Own Dime

This just goes to show you how much Class Sir Kevin of Smith has. He's not your typical Hollywood scumbag who doesn't give a crap about the "little man." Apparently, he is going to fund Clerks 3 all by himself!

”As for funding the flick we nearly Kickstarted the budget back in November. But now Im feeling like thats not fair to real indie filmmakers who need the help. Unlike back when I made CLERKS in 91, Ive GOT access to money now so I should use that money and not suck any loot out of the crowd-funding marketplace that might otherwise go to some first-timer who can really use it. So if I can get away with it, Im gonna try to pay for CLERKS III myself. As much as I love the crowd-funding model (and almost did it myself in early 2009 with RedStateGreen.com), thats an advancement in indie film that belongs to the next generation of artists. I started on my own dime, and if Im allowed, I should finish on my own dime."

@SotoJuiceMan Hilarious.

On a side note, that is really awesome that he's sort of handing the baton off to the next wave of filmmakers. Class act, and one of the best modern directors.

That's really awesome of him. I'm a huge fan of his, the only movies I haven't seen of his are Cop Out and Jersey Girl, and I loved all the ones I did.

While I thought that Clerks 2 was absolutely horrible, anything that gets me more Jay and Silent Bob I'll go for.

i think the Dark Knight Trilogy (and Nolan) will be the main topic in Randal conversations this time around. Hope they will be laughing at Disney too. And that new Hollywood trend to reboot every movie that is consider as a classic.

I was really against Clerks II. It felt like he was just sucking his fans cocks after they trashed Jersey Girl and he was supposed to have closed the book on the Askewniverse and alla that. It turned out okay, though. Some could say that it sullied the original's indie-cool, but the original is the original and it exists in ts own zeitgeist and can never really be sullied. Besides Smith seems to be against ever saying never, these days, so [frick] it. I'm all for Clerks III.
And it should be in 3D. That would be so [frick]ing funny. Clerks 3D, man. From Black and White to 3D? For a film like Clerks?! That'd be awesome. I mean I'd much rather see these guys chatting shit in 3D than Optimus Prime throwing indistinguishable Decepticons at my gorram face. I think it'd be fvcking hilarious. It has to happen.
And as for the indie-cool? Well, of all those guys that came outta Sundance in the early '90s, Kev'd be the only one that I can think of that regained his indie-cool by self-financing and maybe even self-distributing this film. Keeping in mind that Miramax is Disney, could Smith be the only one to be keeping it real?

Asterisk@ Jersey Girl is awesome (in a Frank Capra, Sunday afternoon kind of way). CopOut is a bit of a Copot, really, but it is funny as fvck and is really watchable.

I don't like the way he says that he's gonna "finish" on his own dime, though. Never say never, Silent Bub.

^ that makes no sense. since he's paying for his film by himself he cares about "little man"? most movies are paid by a studio instead. how is this any different or groundbreaking? smh

^That right there makes no sense. Yes, he does care about the "little man." He could have used Kickstarter to fund the movie but instead is paying for it himself and letting someone else have a chance at getting the funds to make a movie. Jesus man, open your eyes. You're the only one it seems that doesn't get it.
