Locke & Key has been in development hell. Well, no longer: Dreamworks has acquired the film rights from Dimension for the Eisner nominated comic book. They have also signed the prolific writing team of Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman (Star Trek, Transformers, Fringe) to pen the movie.

From IDWpublishing.com:

Written by Joe Hill and featuring astounding artwork from Gabriel Rodriguez, Locke & Key tells of Keyhouse, an unlikely New England mansion, with fantastic doors that transform all who dare to walk through them... and home to a hate-filled and relentless creature that will not rest until it forces open the most terrible door of them all...

Locke & Key creator Hill has received the Bram Stoker Award for Best Fiction Collection, the British Fantasy Award for Best Collection and Best Short Story, and the Sydney J. Bounds Best Newcomer Award-2007, among his growing collection of critical accolades.

DogsOfWar-This book has all the makings for a good CBM. The writing team has been solid with one exception: Transformers: ROTF. I am willing to give them a mulligan on that one. Orci and Kurtzman are also working on Cowboys and Aliens.

For me it will be all about the set. The Keys and the Doors need to look right. Looking forward to Spielberg's take, though.

I love this site and visit it everyday, but this is my first post that i remember. I had to chime in on L&K. Its one of my favorite series and should be read by all. I think it would translate well into an HBO, Showtime, or even FX or AMC series. But an animated movie would be tits. Id even take a motion comic. I really just wanted to see Gabriel Rodriguez's art come to life. Its the best work being done right now, I think, but I dont read as much as I used to. At any rate, this is great news for a great series.
