Mark Millar Offers You The Chance To Name Nemesis!

Mark Millar Offers You The Chance To Name Nemesis!

The writer is holding a charitable auction to allow one lucky comic book fan the chance to name the title character in Nemesis...

The auction will donate 100% of the proceeds to a school for handicapped children that Millar's brother teaches at. The school needs a new bus and Millar has decided that this is good way to make that happen.

The previous auction raised more than $8,000 and the winner (Blake Morrow) will share his name with the comic book and rumoured films good guy, a cop out to stop Nemesis in the upcoming series written by Mark Millar with art by Steve McNiven.

In a press release about the previous auction's results Millar said, "Can I just say a huge thank you to everyone who participated in the first auction. The kids and staff at my brother's school were delighted and the $8,400 raised means a quarter of their target has been reached already."

"I had chosen a good secret identity for Nemesis himself, but it seems almost selfish not to auction this now too and possibly reach the halfway line the kids need for this bus. I'm amazed how much cash was raised the first time around, but am hoping the auction to name the TITLE character raises even more."

I do believe they're refering to Nemesis' real life identity, as it sounds like Nemesis will be his sobriquet.

this is so crazy. if i won, i would name him The Neuterer. and then mark millar's character would be stuck with a whack-ass name.

Man how can they not see the resemblance between that pic and the joker from the dark knight? Then again they might be banking off the fact some people might think its the joker and buy the comic.

Mark Millar has came out and described it as a Batman ripoff in which Batman is also the Joker and the good guy is an analogue of Jim Gordon. He described the premise as "What if Batman was a total [foo foo]"

So its about a wealthy criminal mastermind who travels the world, finding the best cop in each country and ruining their lives. The latest of whom is Blake Morrow.

Nemesis comes out in MARCH 2010!
and here is a little more about the character
so maybe a NAME will come easier.

This from Comic Book Resources

With Nemesis, they’re aiming to turn the handsome and privileged bachelor template (epitomized by the likes of Bruce Wayne and Tony Stark) on its head—by making him a Joker-level super-villain.

Millar describes the idea for the character in a recent chat with Comic Book Resources:

MM- What if this genius billionaire was just this
total shit, and the only thing that stood between
him and a city was the cops? It’s Batman versus
Commissioner Gordon, in a weird way. Or maybe a
super-villain version of Se7en. A billionaire
anarchist up against ordinary people. The Joker’s
the best thing in the Batman movies, so this guy
is a bit of an amalgamation of all the stuff we
like.

MM- Nemesis is the world’s smartest man, and the bad
news for us is that he’s the world’s only super-
villain. That means he’s got freeze guns and ju
using them against us. To entertain himself, he
picks a different cop every year and makes his
life a misery. The book opens with him [frick]ing
over Japan’s top cop, and then our story, the mini-
series, takes place as he shifts his attention to
Washington and his first American attacks.

Batman as a bad guy? Okay, I'll give it a shot!

And, of course, if I won the auction (which I won't because I have no extra dinero), I would have to name Nemesis after myself!

peterparker420- Thanks man, had no idea who he was. Sounds cool and refreshing. You see??? This was my point about Avatar. There is a way of making an original story with an overused plot! Twist things around and voila!!! They could have easily come up with a better story for Avatar but they opted to copy paste.

Mark Millar is a great writer and judging by these auctions he's holding, a pretty great guy as well! Its not every creator who would let a stranger name their creations! :)

tea: LMAO! :D

Guys, check out my X-FACTOR INVESTIGATIONS Fan Cast under "Fan Fic"!!! :)

haha nice I should bid on this and the name him after myself. Then he would be stuck with a scandinavian name and would have to make the guy of scandinavian descent, muhahahaha!!

On the other hand, my name does not sound particularly good in english, so I will just stand back and let and save the money, lol.

dude, the article says that the fan will be given the chance to name the character. it doesn't say the character will be given the name of the winner...DUH!
