I think it goes without saying that Stan Lee has created some of the most iconic characters in the comic book universe and has made a lasting impression on several generations of readers. Today, in conjunction with 1821 Comics, Stan Lee and his POW! Entertainment debuted a new series of comics aimed at today's younger generation. The characters are designed to be kid-friendly, as well as parent approved. Here is what Lee had to say about the project:
"The whole idea is to give them the kind of stories that they haven't read before that they can easily understand and relate to. While we want these to be reasonably educational and good for kids _ that goes without saying _ but our main purpose to be entertaining ... kids have a great sense of humor if you can reach them the right way."
The characters, which include Reggie the Veggie Crocodile, are the result of a brainstorming session with Paris Kasidokostas Lastis and Terry Dougas of 1821 and Lee. The main objective for this new universe is to hit a target of younger kids, eseentially giving them their own universe to enjoy.
The first books to head to print include "Monsters vs. Kittens," from writer and artist Dani Jones. Later in 2012, you will see "Once Upon a Time" and "Fuzz Posse, which is a group of police dogs, followed by "Reggie the Veggie Crocodile" and "The Animal Band."
This concept isn't entirely new, as we have had myriad of other comic books and characters directed at kids, including
Nuck's precious Care Bears, but I believe this would be the first time Stan Lee has put his stamp pf approval and talented hands on. So those of you looking to break your kids into the comic world, this may be your answer!
