President Obama Addresses STAR WARS/STAR TREK Mix Up

After confusing both sci-fi franchises and mixing up Spock's "Vulcan mind meld" with the Star Wars universe's "Jedi Mind Trick", the POTUS is at it again - only this time on purpose, making a Captain Kirk/force related joke at an event over the weekend..

The geeks had a field day when President Obama mixed up Trek and Wars at a press conference in early March, when he responded to a CNN correspondent's query about sequestration by replying that he hoped he could "somehow do a Jedi mind meld with these folks and convince them to do what's right.". As any fanboy/girl worth their salt knows, Star Trek's Mr Spock does a "vulcan mind meld", while the "Jedi mind trick" is something practiced by the Jedi Knights from Star Wars. Obviously not a big deal but we had a bit of fun with it, as did the President himself - and he continues to! Addressing journalists on Saturday evening at the Gridiron Dinner Obama referenced the recent slip-up "After a very public mix-up last week, my communications team has provided me with an easy way to distinguish between Star Trek and Star Wars. Spock is what Maureen Dowd calls me. Darth Vader is what John Boehner calls me." Obama summed up his remarks by making an even more obvious mix up, this time as a joke. "And in the words of one of my favorite Star Trek characters -- Captain James T. Kirk of the USS Enterprise -- 'May the force be with you.'"
