A couple days ago we got news that the 'Amazing Fantasy #15' comic-book sold for $1.1 million and now one of, if not the best known issue of 'The Incredible Hulk' has sold for $150,000 on comiclink.com

This particular issue features the first ever appearance Wolverine.

ComicLink Sells Incredible Hulk #181 CGC 9.9 For $150,000

A Bronze Age comic has broken the six-figure ceiling with the single highest CGC graded example of Incredible Hulk #181, Wolverine’s first full appearance, changing hands on ComicLink for $150,000. This lone 9.9 has long been estimated to be the single most valuable comic book of the 1970s, but it had never changed hands publicly until this sale a few weeks ago. This number sets a new standard for high grade comics from the Bronze Age and clearly demonstrates the popularity of Wolverine amongst collectors.

“It is a rare event when the single highest certified example of a comic as important as Incredible Hulk #181 changes hands,” says ComicLink President Josh Nathanson. “This singular 9.9 has long been tucked away in a private collection, largely hidden away from public view. The sale of this book is not only a great example of the strength of the market for top graded keys, but also an incredible acquisition for the new owner! Think of the bragging rights!”

I had the chance to buy this for $40 when I was 13 but I didn't have it. I settled for Hulk #180 for $10. This kills me. Why didn't I mow more lawns and wash more cars? Ugh!

They used to sell Wolverine as the "First and Greatest Canadian Super hero" until he became one of the most popular characters

Is that all??? That's only about £90,000! Cheap for a major and popular character.I'm genuinely surprised at that.

Back in my youth I had both this issue and #180, Wolverine's REAL first appearance (the final panel of the issue). Sadly, when I went off to basic training my family moved to another state and left all my stuff behind, and that was 21 years ago so no telling where it is now.

you will not believe me when I say i use to have a copy of this...

This teenage girl gave it to me about 1980 something. She gave me that Unknown soldier, sgt Rock, some archies, heathcliff, spiderman and a total of 12 comics.

I only wanted it for the Hulk.
well jump to 1995ish and I hear they go for some serious money...

I take it to the comic shop and he tells me if the cover wasnt trashed to hell he would give me $500 for it. But said it's only worth $75.

so i kept it.
I have over 8,000 comics and I cant find it for shit...

I have one of those. It's funny. Wolverine couldn't cut Hulk's skin, which is a joke of course.

I never understood that.

And FOX tells us a direct comic to film won't translate well. Hello? This comic made bank. Pay attention FOX. Gives us the comics on film not your own interpretations.

My brother picked this up for about $10 18yrs ago. But there is a big price difference in grades, on Ebay you can get a 9.8 for 20,000, 9.6 for 4,000, and a 7.0 for about 500, so just .1 means a big difference.

It's not a rare print, it's just the quality that makes the difference.

150K for #181??? I just have to start looking at my collection and have some of these issues graded. I know mine is in great shape but I haven't looked at it in over 20 years.

@ Juggernaut. Back in #181 Wolverines claws didn't cut Hulks skin. Another Retcon. The Hulks skin WAS inpenetrable from the his first appearance all the way into Peter Davids run on the title in the mid 90's when he changed it to a healing factor instead. Not my favorite Retcon for sure, then again I hate pretty much all Retcons. I wish they would just "crisis" their universe rather than constanly changing all of it's historical facts with every new writer.

Liked it better when he was indestructable the way Stan made him and the way he existed for more than 30 years. The first time he was ever really injured it took a Beyonder powered Ultron to do it in the secret wars. He suffered a broken leg and it DIDN'T immediately heal. That's the Hulk as it should be.

Actually the very first appearance of Wolverine occurred in The Incredible Hulk #180, although #181 contained the first Wolverine story. Back in the days I was buying comics, these ended up being the only Hulk comics I ever purchased. I have kept them (along with all my others) and am now interested, for obvious reasons, in having them graded. Does anyone know who can I contact to assist with this?

Yep, confirmed, his first appearance was in 180 as a camo. He is not named in that issue, which is why most people think 181 is his first appearance. You can see http://cmro.travis-starnes.com for confirmation.
