Gene Colan has become very ill and in hopes to fund an operation is selling his work.

In hopes to alleviate Gene Colan's faltering condition, and through his long term friend and colleague, Clifford Methare, is now selling of the last of Gene's artwork, as well as some of his books and comics.




I know this is a terrible thing to even post and very inappropriate but the possible benefits certainly outway the "news". And what better place to post this than this site, knowing that so many here are probably very interested in some of his collections.

To place a bid send an email to [email protected] - put “Colan Auction Bid” in the subject. In the body of your email, indicate the item # that you are bidding on and its description. Bidding on all items will end on Sunday May 8 at 11pm EST and winners will be notified.

I hope he gets well , and it is sad that a great artist has to give up what seems to be a huge part of his life . I have always thought his art was the best, he had an eye for detail.

It seems like some of the others in the industry would step up and help the man out. MacFarlane spent 4million on a couple of (now worthless) baseballs. You'd think a man's life and a man who forged some comic history would be worth a few bucks to some of the other 'legends' of the comic book world.

Very sorry to hear this. For those who don't know, Mr. Colan had been betrayed, abused and taken advantage of by some people close to him in the last couple of years. This resulted in an extended hospital stay, stolen and/or destroyed original artwork, the theft of art commission fees as well as a significant portion of a 6-figure retirement fund from a Marvel-hosted benefit last year.

I have nothing to do with the auction but I urge anyone with the means to place a bid (as you can see they start as low as $20 for signed pieces). Even if you're not a fan of the man who co-created Marvel's Blade and Dracula and whose art at various periods has represented the definitive Daredevil and Iron Man as well as standout runs on Captain America, Dr. Strange and Batman, $20 is a drop in the bucket to give back to a man who is a legend in an industry we all have an interest in. Again, the starting bids are well below actual market value on these items and even if you don't win you'll at least be doing some small part to help this legendary creator.

What rhe F!!! i think that Marvel and all the other company's that he worked for should all come together and pay for the operation. He's one of the great creator's in comic book history and deserves better from the company's that he gave his life and art to. I would hope that Marvel would help him out .

This is sad. I just saw Bob Hall at a children's museum in Lincoln Nebraska on Saturday drawing pics for kids. Although it was great at first, i had to wonder if any of these guys have any sort of retirement or pension. Probably not :( wish i had the money to donate.

sad news..his early sketches are mostly portrait of filipinos during world war 2 when he joined the forces and drew some stuff to our local news paper, the manila times.. wish i could help.

Cases like this are why we should all support the Hero Inititive (formerly ACTOR - A Commitment To Our Roots). They raise money to help the "elder statesmen" of the comic book industry who were never payed what they deserved as the architects of our childhoods, and American mythology itself.
