Which Trilogy's closing disappointed you the most?

I know that I created my poll awhile ago on which trilogy ending disappointed you most, but I thought oh hell, might as well do an article as well. So please, I beg you, complain to me about which Trilogy ending was the worst!

Ah Trilogies. Some magnificent, others trash. There are a lot of Trilogies out there, ones that people can't stop talking about. For instance-Spider-man 3, X3-The Last Stand, The Matrix, and so on. Many Trilogies have a trend where the first is awesome, the second blows it out of the water, and the third is trash. Its either because the first two films did so well at the box office that Filmmakers must've thought, 'oh hell, we don't need to give the people what they want. So hey, let's create one of the worst movies ever and disappoint them all. Won't matter. It'll still make a killing at the box office.'

My top five choices for disappointing closings on trilogies.

5. Return of the Jedi

In the last movie of the Star Wars Saga, Return of the Jedi actually starts out pretty well. I love the whole desert scene where our favorite characters are about to be eaten by a monstrous beast. But where this movie down fall occurs is the ewoks. Really? Lucas went with Teddy Bears to defeat the Empire? When you look at them you gotta cringe. Even as a kid I hated it. But hey, made a TON in merchandise. If there were no Ewoks, Return of the Jedi would be one of my favorite movies. The whole ewok thing just sucks and it should've been left out.
Don't get me wrong. I thought the movie was pretty good. Just the whole Teddy bear thing was bad. Alone, Return of the Jedi is a giant. But when it stands up next to it's predecessors, it's weak. The lightsaber fight in the end thankfully recovered the movie for me. A-

4. Jurassic Park 3

While Jurassic Park was a groundbreaking achievement in movie history as far as special effects go, and The Lost World (my all time favorite movie) achieved great box office numbers and a positive audience response, Jurassic Park 3 rolled along. I had such anticipation for this movie before it came out but when I watched it, it became ever clearer that this movie was going to disappoint. When I was a kid I was a dinosaur expert nerd, and I didn't like the fact that they kept saying Spinosaurus was the biggest meat eater that ever lived. Nope. T-Rex was ladies and Gents. They only went with Spino because they felt that they needed a new carnivore on the big screen that would carry them like the T-rex. Yeah, that turned out real great. The audience practically hated the movie and It fell short behind the first two. Joe Johnston's most clueless direction ever, and even though the Dinosaurs look great, you can see what I mean when the actors come on screen. At least Spielberg knew how to make them look like they weren't robots. Horrid movie.

3. X-men 3: The Last Stand.

Bryan Singer's X-men was fantastic. His X2 was so, so, much better. When I first saw the poster where Wolverine's class are placed infront of the X-men logo, I nearly wet myself in excitement. So when it was released, I got my popcorn and my large beverage and sat down to enjoy what I thought was sure to be the best Xmen movie. I was wrong. There were several scenes that weren't needed and the fact that they killed off Charles?! Damnmit. The special effects maybe awesome, but killing off some much needed characters really sucks. I mean, Cyclops basically had a cameo in this movie. He had more screen time in X-men Origins: Wolverine. Huge disappointment. I guess that's what you get when Bret Ratner directs your movie. Stan Lee was disappoint.

2. The Matrix Revolutions

The Matrix was the Inception of its time-made people wonder, 'Is my world real? Or am I in the Matrix? The action was intense and groundbreaking and it made the movie unforgettable. The Matrix Reloaded made the most $$$ in the trilogy, but it still disappointed it's fans. But the fans couldn't prepare themselves for the biggest disappointment of 2003-Matrix Revolutions. While the whole Sentienal battle sequence still makes me go, 'Sweentess', the acting and the characters are as wooden as Louisiana backwoods redneck house. The ending with Neo and the machine is terrible. The whole he can see without his eyes is shit considering his ability isn't devoloped well at all. And in the end, all this movie has going for it is its special effects. And Keanu Reeves' career wasn't too colorful after this movie. Don't blame the guy.

1. Spider-man 3

When I saw the midnight showing to this movie back in 07, I thought how the heck could Sam Rami done so right with Spider-man 2 and go so wrong with Spider-man 3? Sandman's character was pointless and they didn't need to make him the killer of Uncle Ben. Harry's death wasn't sad at all, by the time that scene rolls around your thought process is, 'is this movie over yet?!' I loved the Black suit however, and the design of Venom was perfect. but Topher Grace as Venom?

hahahhahahhahahahhahahahahhahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahah!

I guess Donna wouldn't be too proud that her boyfriend Eric grew up to be Spider-man's enemy. Grant it, there are way, way many more movies out there that are worse than Spider-man 3, but Spidey's third installment has the most diappointing ending in my book.

So vote below. If you've already voted, fine, but if you wish to share your

Batman Forever and X3 were pretty bad.
I thought the third films for LOTR, Jurassic Park, and Star Wars (both trilogies) were the best of their respective trilogies.
Spider-Man 3 is underrated, IMO, but definitely not as good as the first two.
Last Crusade is the second best Indy film, IMO.
And why do you have Twilight on that poll? ;P

Why do you have Return of the Jedi on there? Return of the Jedi is one of the greatest movies ever. The scene where Darth Vader throws the Emperor down the Death Star core gives me goosebumps every time I see it. I agree with PaulRom with the rest of them tho.

Let me concider the following:
Superman - The first two movies was a great start for a very good movie series; but the third one with Richard Pryor really did killed the mood of the films. Would of been much better if the fourth movie was the third instead.
Batman (Burton Era) - The only flaw this trilogy has was that it was only 2 movies. If Burton was given the chance to do the third Batman movie, it could of been better than what Shoemarker have made.
Spider-Man - Due to the third movie, we are getting a reboot. Nuff said.
X-Men - Due to Singer leaving, the francise went downhill from there. Vaugn manage to save what is left of it (though, he could of prevent the suckiness of the third movie if he just directed the movie years ago).
Blade - I think Fox was involved with the third movie.
Lord of the Rings - What the [frick] is this being on the pole?
Lethal Weapon - Again, what the [frick] is this movie doing on here?
Die Hard - Same with Lord of the Rings and Lethal Weapon
Original Trilogy - Good till the third came out
Prequel Trilogy - Bad till the third came out
Indiana Jones - Trilogy was perfect until the fourth movie was made.
Star Trek - Wasn't there a saying that every odd number Star Trek movie tends to be bad?
Twilight - 1. The books was honestly better than the movie (so you can at least read past all that crappy romance and just get to the action). 2. The trilogy of these films are good, since honestly us CBM fans would never go to see them; so I guese its a good trilogy, I guess.
Jaws - Should never have had sequels in the first place.
. . . You know what, the rest either have a very good trilogy or one bad last film.

All I can say is the movie series that sucks in the end for me was Resident Evil; the first was pretty good, I enjoy the second for incorporating the RE2 and RE3 plot line and including characters from the actual game, but it sucks in the end when they are focusing on that bitch Alice for majority of the film.

the matrix trilogy,i expected so much more out of the two sequels.

but neither could match the sheer brilliance of the first movie.

Definately Matrix Revolutions. HATED that Neo died in the end and Trinity was killed off too. Ruined the entire movie for me and I walked away absolutely disgusted. The second movie wasn't much better than the third. Too bad they settled for WAY too much action and special effects over telling a good story. This trilogy had so much potential.

Liked the first one, though. If they had stuck with what made the first one a success, including a GOOD STORY, this trilogy would have been one of the best to hit theatres.

I heard Keanu stated he's interested in doing another Matrix movie. Considering how bad the last two were, I really hope this never falls through. It would be great to see Neo return, but it just wouldn't be worth it.

X3, Spidey 3, Matrix.

LOTR- ROTK is the best one
SW- Revenge of the Sith is pretty good, Ewoks only downer of Return of the Jedi
BTTF- all 3 are pretty solid
Die Hard- the third one is my favorite
Transformers- I liked the 3rd one A LOT!
Indiana Jones- Raiders and Crusade rock. Temple of Doom and Crystal Skull suck.

Lord of the Rings, Star Wars and Back to the future are amazing, as are the Indiana Jones films. ROTK was the best LOTR film. ROTJ wasn't the best of the original trilogy, but by no means was it a dissapointment. conversely, ROTS was the best prequel film. BTTF 3 was better than 2, I loved the western feel of it.

Biggest dissapointment has to be the Matrix, started so well but the end was just... stupid. Second is X3, then Godfather.

And why is Twishite on the list, they're all awful (Yes, I've seen them, I went with friends) the third one was marginally better, but still not even mediocre.

somebody explain to me how at the end of return of the jedi remastered version young anakin is there with yoda and obi-wan but the same obi-wan is there, not the young obi-wan?

Someone can't count...Jaws, Alien, Superman, Die Hard, Lethal Weapon, Indy and Rocky are not trilogies! Strange that the LOTR would find its way on the list, too. 16 Oscars mean anything to you?! Hmm, fail.

sonofsamadams - 7/10/2011, 11:19 PM
@Yourmomnaked

No, the fails on you.

Guess you never took into consideration everyone's opinion. Over the years I've heard people complain over Jaws, Alien, Superman, Die Hard, Lethal Weapon Indy and Rocky. Even Lord of the Rings. Now the people who complain about LOTR are most likely people who favor the book over the movie.

And secondly, I guess you've never heard of the trilogy meter off of Graphjam.

Can't have a trilogy poll without listing pretty much all of the popular trilogys.

So you fail for not thinking deeper, bud.
YourMomNaked
YourMomNaked - 7/11/2011, 6:13 AM
@Justsomeawesomeguy...you can't have a trilogy poll and include non-trilogies, bud. Sorry, you can't! By definition the titles I listed ARE NOT TRILOGIES, hence the FAIL.

Webster's defines a TRILOGY as: a series of THREE dramas or literary works or sometimes THREE musical compositions that are closely related and develop a SINGLE THEME.

So, the fail is on you for being illogical and redefining the term trilogy to fit your "deep" thoughts!

As for Graphjam, no, I never heard of the trilogy meter, but after looking it up, its premise is illogical and fail, too: NONE of the titles (with the exception of LOTR) I listed intended to have sequels, trilogies or go beyond the initial film, so you CANNOT ignore movies 4, or (in some cases) 5 and 6 to fit the model for a true trilogy.

Next you'll want to redefine an apple to fit your description of an orange...F A I L

Why isn't Harry Potter on the list, too, then? By you're deep thinking definition, it should be a trilogy, too, right?!

@yournakedmom

Isn't it illogical for someone like yourself who thinks his brain operates logically rather than illogic where the logic doesn't come from the illogical response you've given me which in turn makes you an illogical pathological user trying to tell me logic that isn't there?
