It Doesn't Sound Like Jake Johnson Will Return As Lowery In The JURASSIC WORLD Sequel

Despite a scene-stealing turn in 2015's Jurassic World, it's looking unlikely that Jake Johnson's Lowery Cruthers will return for more dino mayhem in the highly anticipated 2018 sequel. Check it out!

"I understand people died, it was terrible, but - that first park was legit."

Jake Johnson (New Girl) had arguably the most memorable line from Universal Pictures' mega-blockbuster Jurassic World when he made a meta-reference to the original Jurassic Park, a film widely considered to be one of the greatest of all-time, but despite leaving a lasting impression on audiences in a fan-favorite role, it doesn't sound like he'll be back to man the controls of Paddock 9 in the eagerly awaited 2018 sequel.

According to Johnson himself, from what he's heard, his character, Lowery Cruthers, will not make a return in the yet-to-be titled Jurassic World sequel. Check out his tweet below:

Well, that's disappointing to say the least, but considering that the park is for all intents and purposes officially closed for business, it shouldn't come as a huge surprise that Cruthers, a Jurassic World employee, wouldn't be back for Round 2, especially after narrowly surviving the first time.

J.A. Bayona (A Monster Calls) is directing the untitled sequel with a script from Colin Trevorrow & Derek Connolly. The project is expected to go on floors early next year.

So, what do you guys think? Sound off with your thoughts below!

That sucks, I liked his character.

Just rewatched the movie recently, and I really think the writers missed an opportunity for a 3rd act twist.

Bryce Howard's character -- who was somewhat responsible for a lot of the disaster-- should have been the one snatched up and eventually killed by the mosasaur. They could have cast a better-known actress as the kids' minder/babysitter, given her a secondary storyline to make her more likeable, and had her take over the female protagonist role after finding and reconnecting with the kids in the park.

The way the movie is now, it feels wrong that Howard's character gets away without any consequences and even gets to be with the leading man.

@NoAssemblyReqd -

I like the film but your idea sounds much better.

@NoAssemblyReqd - agreed. It's always been the point of these movies that man shouldn't try and control nature. It feels off to me that our protagnonists here are a control freak business woman who doesn't care about the lives of the dinosaurs and a velociraptor tamer. Neither of them ever get any sort of comeuppance and it feels like they should have.

@The72nd - Well, to be fair, Pratt's character has a respect for the raptors and never loses sight of the fact that they are deadly creatures. It's D'Onofrio's character who wrongly assumes the raptors can be tamed.

In the first movie, I never thought it was fair that John Hammond survived while the gamekeeper, who was against keeping raptors and was even pushing for their destruction, died.

@NoAssemblyReqd - that's a fair point about pratt's character. Hammond dies in the novel, but survives in the movie, which always struck me as odd.

Tacky, univentive movie. And now the director of Star Wars Ep. 9. NOT thrilled.

@Lem1 - I mostly liked it, especially in comparison to JP2 and JP3. Those two sequels showed that dinos running amok is not interesting on its own. The controlled theme park environment failing miserably due to human hubris is what made the first one good, and JW took that to its logical next step.

@Lem1 - 'Safety not Guaranteed' is a classic, he's a very creative guy who understands CHARACTER. JW characters are pretty bland tho, which is a real shame, he could've made something much smaller and personal, but the Studio obviously calls the shots and probably just wanted to make a "safe" sequel, which kinda makes sense for a franchise revival.

@Lem1 - You know, the directors are being told what to do, right? All these decisions you see on the screen aren't necessarily his. The have people who produce, write, act, etc. Most directors do not control everything you see on the screen.
