The Matrix Resurrections star Laurence Fishburne has shared his take on the divisive sequel, admitting he's seen the movie...and wasn't impressed! Find the former Morpheus' comments in full right here.

The Matrix is a beloved, classic sci-fi movie but its sequels, Reloaded and Revolutions, are mostly remembered as being disappointments. However, the latter still wrapped up the trilogy in style, and while there were occasional rumblings about a reboot (led by Black Panther star Michael B. Jordan), that was where we thought the story had ended.

Last December, Warner Bros. released The Matrix Resurrections, bringing back a number of key cast members, including Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss. After finding a way to resurrect Neo and Trinity, the very meta movie also saw Morpheus make his return, though he was played by Aquaman's Yahya Abdul-Mateen II this time around.

Recently, Fishburne was asked (via SFFGazette.com) if he watched The Matrix Resurrections, and it doesn't sound like he was overly impressed.

"Yes, I did. It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be...and it wasn't as good as I hoped it would be," the actor said, drawing laughs. "I thought Carrie-Anne and Keanu really did their thing and, yeah, that's what I thought."

Pushed on whether he regrets missing out, Fishburne deadpanned, "No, not really."

You can check out Fishburne's comments in full in the video below.

Still say it was a more enjoyable film than 2 & 3

@Twenty23Three - that's insane, Puppet Master legacy looks like Citizen Cane compared to this fart sniffing sequel

@Twenty23Three - but I thought 2 & 3 were your favorite numbers

@Twenty23Three - I quite liked 2 and 3.

That said I can also say I quite liked 4. In particular, I thought Neil Patrick Harris and Jonathan Groff both had great performances, in additional to Reeves, Moss and Abdul-Mateen.

@thewanderer - I think I enjoyed 4 more because unlike 2 & 3 the character felt like people. In the original sequels everyone was a boring robot

@Twenty23Three - Reloaded and Revolutions have aged quite well, especially the underlying themes of cause & effect, destiny vs. choice, and the path of the One.

The only thing those films did wrong was lean too far into the philosophical side of things, which as a younger viewer at the time, can be a turnoff. The original film did a better job just balancing everything out.

I liked what they tried to do with Ressurrections, it was just missing some better kung-fu action.

Nothing tops their sense8 though...on a pure emotional level.

What a way to screw the pooch, the people who say this wasn't bad are the same clowns praising Halloween Ends. Just say you like terrible movies, not guilty pleasure movies. Bad movies. Who's hyped for the Exorcist remake next year 🤣

@bobevanz - You're calling people clowns for enjoying something you don't. What if you're the clown for wasting your time on something and not enjoying it

@CaptainScotland - Thats kind of weird take. I agree you shouldn't insult people for liking something you don't. Or vice versa. But how would you know you don't enjoy something until you try it?

@CaptainScotland - nah! Sometimes there's an absoute right and wrong. I'd wager one of my rock-solid livers even Lana doesn't believe that was a good movie.

While I agree with the sentiments this is opinion and the article is marked “news”.

“ We're guessing the actor was just glad to escape what proved to be a pretty awful movie, though it is a shame the franchise ended on such a disappointing note. The cast definitely gave it their all, but that wasn't enough to save the muddled screenplay and mediocre direction.”

Somehow it ended up being worse than I thought it would, even though I went in with low expectations.

At least I can see Keanu and Laurence in John Wick 4 in a few months

MATRIX Resurrections was horrible to watch. Even the action scenes, which is what saved the 2nd and 3rd movie, sucked!!!!

I hated the movie, though there were good performances by cast. Script and action put me off. Felt weird after watching it. That's the common problem I find when the studios desperately try to come up with a movie with franchise plan all the time.

Very odd direction. Some I could feel were good ideas, but the way it is handled and also the recast of some characters...it just didn't feel right at all.

I would rather play a video game of The Matrix again honestly.
