Now that Hollywood has given us sub-par remakes of beloved Paul Verhoeven classics such as RoboCop and Total Recall, his 1997 cult hit Starship Troopers could very well be next.
In fact, we last heard two years ago that Thor screenwriters Ashley Edward Miller and Zack Stentz were penning a Starship Troopers remake for Fast Five producer Neal Moritz. Not much has been heard of the project since, so who knows if it will ever even happen.
Today, however, Annapurna Pictures (the burgeoning studio behind films like Her, Zero Dark Thirty, Spring Breakers, and the upcoming Terminator: Genesis) founder Megan Ellison dropped this cryptic bombshell on her Twitter page this morning:
This prompted the folks over at Collider.com to respond with this image:
Which received this intriguing response from Ellison:
Now, this isn't much to go on, and is by no means an official confirmation of such a thing happening. However, if Ellison
is hinting at the possibility of a
Starship Troopers remake over at Annapurna, that would certainly pique our interest. Yes, Verhoeven's film is a classic, and there's a good chance that a remake would fail to come close to its greatness (especially if it employs the same PG-13 rating that many felt was damning to
RoboCop); but the production house has a fantastic track record so far, so the movie would be in good hands.
Tell us, would you like to see Annapurna Pictures (or anyone, for that matter) remake Starship Troopers? Or is this one classic that should be left alone?
