Fox has announced the DVD/BLU Ray release of Avatar on April 22nd aka Earth day - a while ago. It'll be odd since it's a Thursday, but Cameron does whatever Cameron wants. Here's what you didn't know about the release though..

This package will have zero features - no trailers - not even an animated menu. Nothing.

Why you ask? Double dipping? Probably - but Fox is saying because they want the movie to have even more impressive 2d visuals to make up for the lack of home video 3D - they have to free up space on the disc. That's why there's no additional goodies. yet.

There's likely going to be an 'Ultimate' Edition coming this November - which may have the additional footage etc - along with mounds of special features. So are we going to wait for that deal or get the theatrical release right now?

I'll probably do both - I'm an avatard. I can't help it.

Great find Keven! :)

This is bullshit! Blu-ray's have more than enough room to hold a movie like this as well as dozens of special features! Besides, havent they heard of a second disc!? Surely they'll release it in 3D though? Or will the 3D not work with the regular red/blue glasses? This is nothing more than a money making scam!

Guys, check out my SQUADRON SUPREME Fan Cast!!! Just click the link!!!

Too true, Josh....this is a bullsh!t marketing ploy!!!

I can understand the space issue on the DVD but that is no excuse for a dual-layer Blu-Ray disc which holds up to 50GB of video!!!....haha, yeah right!...

...I smell Bullsh!t!!!!!

Either BluRay or DVD can have double discs so i really don't see what's the point. And honestly, i don't wanna have to watch over two hours of extra Worthington. I'll buy the no shit version as soon as it hits the 5$ bargin bins.

This movie was not all that. I was more than happy watching it just once and don't need this in my collection. They can keep their "no special features or deleted scenes" piece of shite! Fraking OVERGROWN SMURFS!

Ummm....no, this was fun to watch in theaters because of the effects. It was a more adult Fern Gully. Nothing I'll want to watch at home...but if it WAS, I'd wait for the one with the special features for sure!

@Keven: That's what I'll probably do too. I loved that movie just too much, or I'll tell my parents to buy this one and I'll buy the Special Features one when it comes out.

Isn't "Earth Day" like "Arbor Day"? Or even "Sectretary's Day"? No one gives a rip, do they?

I've said this a million times and I'll say it again:

Avatar was a good movie. A really good movie. But it's nothing but a whole mess of cliche jumbled into one project... 'white man comes to take native peoples land's... 'guy falls for girl who thinks he's someone he's not'. ...

Seriously, I know the recipe to creating Avatar, and here it is:

1 part classic animated film 'Fern Gully'
1 part 'Matrix'
2 parts 'Pocahontas'
A dash of 3D perfection

Stir it all up, let it simmer in your 'James Cameron' brand crock pot for...oh, say about 5 years.
Let cool 6 months before serving so as the fresh aroma entices those hungry to eat and 'Voila!'

Instant Avatar! Enjoy.
