While Chris Evans will again appear as Captain America in next years untitled Avengers 4, his time as the star-spangled hero is coming to an end with the actor revealing that he'll be tackling smaller projects with a predominant focus on directing, following his directorial debut Before We Go.
Deadline is now reporting that the Avengers: Infinity War actor is set to star in Neil Blomkamp's upcoming Greenland. Blomkamp exploded onto the scene with 2009's science-fiction film District 9 even earning a Best Adapted Screenplay nomination, his subsequent ventures Elysium and Chappie, however, failed to reach the same acclaim.
Since that time, Blomkamp founded Oats Studios where he created a number of interesting and exciting short films, he also spent a number of years working on a now-defunct Alien 5 that would have seen the return of franchise star Sigourney Weaver and Michael Biehn. Greenland will mark the director's first feature film since 2015.
Production group Anton is producing the film alongside Thunder Road Pictures’ Basil Iwanyk, with STX International handling the overseas distribution. David Kosse, President of STXinternational spoke to the venture stating "Greenland is the kind of highly commercial genre fare that sees Neil Blomkamp doing what he does best: delivering a smart, fresh, high concept narrative in a world we can easily recognize"
Specific details about Greenland's plot are being kept under wraps though Deadline's report describes the film as "the story of a family’s fight for survival in the face of a cataclysmic natural disaster". Though tone can further be gleaned from Anton CEO's comments who revealed "When we read Greenland, we knew it was exactly the sort of film we wanted to make as we build the Anton brand — smart, character-driven genre with action and heart.
Principal photography for Greenland is set for the last quarter of 2018.
