Move over
James Cameron, theres a new Pandora set to hit the silver screens. That's right,
Gearbox's massively successful
Borderlands franchise is getting the movie treatment. The first person shooter action role playing game is being produced by the father/son duo
Avi and
Ari Arad. The adaptation of the game could prove VERY fruitful for
Lionsgate, the film studio responsible for bringing the game to the world of cinema, as, at the time of writing, the game has shipped more than 26 Million copies worldwide, not to mention two high-grossing follow up games, and a collaborative effort with
Telltale Games in
Tales From The Borderlands.
Lionsgate has promised that the games' "in-your-face attitude" will translate into the film, and just like the games, won't pull any punches.
“Part of our strategy in entering the game space under Peter Levin has been to source new brands with built-in audiences that will translate into great films and television shows,” said Lionsgate Motion Picture Group Co-Chairs Rob Friedman and Patrick Wachsberger. “The ‘Borderlands’ games don’t pull any punches, and we’ll make the movie with the same in-your-face attitude that has made the series a blockbuster mega-franchise".
Take-Two Interactive, the company responsible for publishing the Borderlands games, also spoke about the film deal.
“Lionsgate has emerged as a major creative force in the global marketplace with an incredible portfolio of brands; our partners at Gearbox have pioneered and cultivated an iconic property; and Avi and Ari Arad are two of the most successful producers of action franchises,” Take-Two Interactive Chairman and CEO Strauss Zelnick said. “This alliance is ideally positioned to create a bold, provocative, no-holds-barred motion picture phenomenon that will delight ‘Borderlands” current legions of fans and captivate moviegoers around the world.”
The
Marvel Studios founder,
Avi Arad, played a large part in bringing about some big franchises, like
Iron Man, and
X-Men, to name a few, so hopefully he can ensure the
Borderlands film is made with the highest of quality. He is also involved in the upcoming
Uncharted adaptation.

Borderlands film, or do you think it is best left in the realm of video games? Let me know in the comments below, and be sure to share and hit that thumbs up!
