Yeah, cause a space movie about health care staring MATT DAMON! is totally going to pack the theaters.

I'm calling $22-25M maximum.

But I hope it does much, much worse.

Also: Matt Damon needs to keep his politics to himself and just shut up and act.

IMO Elysium has no competition at all..... 50-60 millions would be more accurate

Actually yes he did...he did in financing the anti-fracking film he produced, and he did in his advocacy of public schools...of course, that was before he enrolled his in a private school. But that just one of many reasons this film could bomb this weekend.

I hope both Elysium and Percy Jackson do well.

I like Neil Blomkamp, Damon, and Copley. But I also enjoyed the first Percy Jackson movie (surprisingly) and you can't argue with Alexandra Daddario (#2 pick for Wonder Woman behind Gemma Arterton).

Fett, I didn't say he can't do what he wants with his money or make movies with the message he supports, just pointed out to you that he does use them as propaganda for his politics. And people who don't like it are free to avoid them and anything else he does. Nor did I say I won't see it...
I think its pretty obvious to Hollywood execs that outspoken celebs mean bad box office...as it should be, no matter what their position, people don't support with their money those that disagree with them with such anger and disrespect as these celebs do. I expect, o, Jamie Foxx will have a negative impact on ASM2 because of the things he's said.
And there you go again stereotyping. I'm agnostic, I've never believed in gods (well, except Thor), I'm conservative to the extreme (Gitmo is too soft on terrorist), I hate both political parties, and Kirk Cameron is a doosh just like Damon and Michael Moore.
But Damons politics don't doom this flick, the competition is too stiff. If he Ts great, it will do ok, if not, it's another summer bunkerbuster bomb.

1% of the population lives with access to resources and property that the rest of could never even imagine getting, short of winning the lottery. Like it or not, this is the world we all live in!

Like other sci-fi stories throughout history, the writers have extrapolated on a trend they see in their society, and are following it to its most logical conclusion...what happens if the environment goes downhill, and the economy with it? You can bet your last dollar that the wealthiest/most powerful will lock down the best land and resources they can get...toot sweet! In case you haven't noticed, it's already happening...

Don't studios keep a larger percentage of the Opening Weekend? I thought that was how they balanced it out. They get a huge chunk of opening weekend then the percentage thins down over time.

I could be wrong but I thought that was how it worked. Not saying Percy will be profitable just curious.
