Despite Lackluster Reviews And A Less Than Stellar Box-Office Fans Still Want To See A DARK TOWER TV Series

Even with the struggle the film is enduring with critics and at the box-office, it seems as if fans still want a Dark Tower TV series based on exit polling data collected after people went to see the film.

Dark Tower is struggling to find its footing since being released a week ago. The film is being panned by critics, and is not doing very well at the box-office. Although it did win its first weekend, it's already getting beat out by Dunkirk and The Emoji Movie as of earlier this week.

While this seems dire for the Dark Tower film franchise, the TV series still seems to be very much on the table. According to Deadline, MRC did some exit polling during the film's opening weekend run. The poll asked movie goers if they would like to see a Dark Tower TV series, and a whopping 83% said that they would definitely/probably be interested.

"That is incredibly encouraging; what it shows is that there is a very big, excited audience for the show,” said MRC co-CEO Modi Wiczyk.

Another bit of info that came from the poll is that only 70% of viewers approved of the film, which means that some people are not being turned off to the series based on their negative view of the movie. “People who have seen the movie are interested in a TV series whether or not they liked the movie;  even if they didn’t like the movie, they were not turn off by that,” Wiczyk said.

MRC is developing the TV series with Sony, and they have tapped The Walking Dead former showrunner, Glenn Mazzara, for the same role. The TV series will take place long before the movie's setting, and focus on Roland's origin. Including, how he got his guns, his first encounter with The Man In Black, his first love and his first mission as a gunslinger.

I feel a tv series would be a great idea. It would definitely flesh the characters and plot out more which was the main weakness of the movie.

Well that's certainly encouraging! I for one enjoyed the film for what it was. Sure it had its bad parts, but overall it was a fun experience. Though I will fully admit that I've never even read any of the Dark Tower books, so that's probably why I was able to enjoy it the way I did and not get mad at whatever changes or omitions that were in place.

Reboot Dark Tower as a TV series and I'll watch it. The movie is a disgrace to the books.

I really think this series of books fits better as a television series. Go to HBO so it can really thrive. This belongs at an HBO, Netflix, Showtime, or something of that nature. It's an adult series. The movie should have been rated R.

If they are going to make a TV series, then they should start from scratch.

A TV series would definitely work rather than a movie.

The Dark Tower had potential to be a Harry Potter type saga but a tv series sounds cool great replacement for Game of Thrones.

They probably want a TV series to explain what the [frick] is going on. Besides this supposed new version of the 'loop' the movie apparently shows only starts at the moment Roland is crossing the desert - meaning the series of his young years SHOULD follow the books. But to be honest there isn't much hope of them even getting that right.

It always should have been a tv series instead. Just start over with the show, because then they can start fresh and not have any ties to the movie.

I saw Dunkirk yesterday, pretty good looking cast

The series has the chance to be more faithful to the book Wizard and Glass, both because of the format and because the events in the book take place well before Roland's life starts over. His life re-starts when he is a late teen or young adult so all of the events in Wizard and Glass have to potential to remain unchanged/not a sequel to the series like the movie. Have I confused anyone?

Still have no idea why they made the movie AFTER the stories of the books, meaning a sequel. Ron Howard had the right idea...first movie based on first book, then a 8 to 10 part TV series following that, then second movie following that, more episodes on TV after that, then third movie ending the entire series. With this, now you have to go backwards and tell a prequel story. Just like the ideas they have for Nightwing, but at least with that, they could always just show flashbacks to his days with Batman. With this, you already have an established sequel with no explanations of who the characters are and where they came from (I didn't see the movie, so don't know if there are flashbacks or not). But, thanks to the greed of movie studios, they weren't willing to gamble on Ron Howard's idea, so now they're regretting the mistake of releasing this version of the movie, hence why they're contemplating the TV series.

A T.V series will have to work double time to bring in the viewers they lost while makeing the movie.
