Denis Villeneuve's Dune sequel officially started its global rollout today, and the movie is already off to a great start at the box office thanks to Thursday night previews and overseas screenings.

Part Two - which has now been confirmed as the middle chapter in a trilogy took in over twice what the first movie ($5.1 million) did from preview screenings back in 2021 with $12 million. Its international tally sits at $7.6 million after opening in 13 foreign markets.

As things stand, Dune 2 is expected to take in as much as $150 million to $175 million worldwide over its opening weekend - although Warner Bros. is being more cautious with $140 million prediction.

Stellar reviews are sure to entice more people into the theaters, and the movie is now "certified fresh" on Rotten Tomatoes with a very impressive 95% critics and audience score.

"Those hoping for blockbuster escapism might find themselves shook by this faithful, at times borderline depressing adaptation," we said in our review. "But Dune Part Two is Sci-fi spectacle at its finest and most audacious, as Villeneuve builds-upon and possibly surpasses (opinions will vary) his previous film with aplomb."

The saga continues as award-winning filmmaker Denis Villeneuve embarks on Dune: Part Two, the next chapter of Frank Herbert’s celebrated novel Dune, with an expanded all-star international ensemble cast. The film, from Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures, is the highly anticipated follow-up to 2021’s six-time Academy Award-winning Dune.

The big-screen epic continues the adaptation of Frank Herbert’s acclaimed bestseller Dune with returning and new stars, including Oscar nominee Timothée Chalamet (Wonka, Call Me by Your Name), Zendaya (Spider-Man: No Way Home, Malcolm & Marie, Euphoria), Rebecca Ferguson (Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning), Oscar nominee Josh Brolin (Avengers: Endgame, Milk), Oscar nominee Austin Butler (Elvis, Once Upon A Time…In Hollywood), Oscar nominee Florence Pugh (Black Widow, Little Women), Dave Bautista (Guardians of the Galaxy, Thor: Love and Thunder), Oscar winner Christopher Walken (The Deer Hunter,), Stephen McKinley Henderson (Fences), Léa Seydoux (James Bond, Crimes of the Future), with Stellan Skarsgård (Avengers: Age of Ultron), Oscar nominee Charlotte Rampling (45 Years, Assassin’s Creed), and Oscar winner Javier Bardem (No Country for Old Men, Being the Ricardos).

Dune: Part Two will explore the mythic journey of Paul Atreides as he unites with Chani and the Fremen while on a warpath of revenge against the conspirators who destroyed his family. Facing a choice between the love of his life and the fate of the known universe, he endeavors to prevent a terrible future only he can foresee.

Sweet!!.

I won’t be able to check it out this weekend but maybe the next…

I also want to rewatch the first one aswell before seeing this just so i can refresh myself on it.

I expect it to have a strong run for a few weeks atleast since it lacks competition until the end of the month (doubt Kung Fu Panda 4 will cause it any harm but Ghostbusters : Frozen Empire or Godzilla & Kong might).

Anyway , looking forward to seeing it when i can!!.

Don't wait to watch this on Max like a putz, and don't watch a cam either! Go to the theater and watch it on the biggest screen possible. Dolby Cinema is only around for a week and imax might get two or three weeks. It's a fantastic sequel! And it sets up a third movie, something the original book didn't do and I respect it. There was a few changes but it actually works in context from part one. Denis is easily the second or third best Director in the game. He has yet to make a bad movie

@bobevanz - I've heard one of it's only flaws is that it ends as set up. Hope that's hyperbole. I'm seeing tomorrow morning and cannot wait. The hype is a bit insane people comparing to The Two Towers and Empire Strikes Back. If it even gives me such vibes I'll be pleased.

@bobevanz - Absolutely agree.

Saw it yesterday and it's a masterpiece. Going again today, tomorrow and next weekend (IMAX).

@McMurdo - It does end with set up, but it's also pretty conclusive. Not really a cliffhanger per se.

I'm confused.. WTF was the point of this article telling us what we already knew???

Anyways. Saw it today. LOVED it. Wayyyy better than the first. Visually, cinematically it phenomenal. Score it great. Acting is great. Best movie of 2024.

My only problem is the religious themes but guess that's accurate from the books... also, wish they showd Paul's transformation into messiah a bit more instead of a quick scene but hey.. I can't complain too much

Man.... it was great, need to see it again

@MotherGooseUPus - the religious themes are kinda the point. It's a cautionary tale from what I've read. I haven't read the books myself but based on what I know it sounds like the third film will culminate these themes thoroughly.

@McMurdo - no i get that, i do... i just... idk... wish it wasn't so prominent or a major theme as it makes me uncomfortable.... but, then, what would be the point of the books/movies? so guess im in the minority.... but... i still LOVED this movie

@MotherGooseUPus -
You are supposed to be a little bit creeped out by the religious aspect of it. That is the major theme of the book, genetically engineering an actual Messiah, and the ramifications of it. What happens when your Messiah can't be controlled.

One of the things that this film does that I don't think is celebrated enough is the immersion into the Fremen culture. Sometimes I felt like I was watching a documentary. The technology they employ, way they fight, foods they ate, way they dressed, how they approached and buried their dead and even the nature of their belief system was so well thought out. This film is out of this world and excellent. It is the greatest science fiction film I have ever seen.

@Forthas - The more i'm thinking about it, the more seems to be illogical or missing from part 2.

@MarvelZombie616 - what this says for me is that the time changes for Dine Part 2 created no space for this sub plot and therefore feelings role had to be cut out.

Looks like Dune Part Two will fall between 500 to 700 million Worldwide finishes. Compared to Thor: Love and Thunder (2022) Box Office Numbers. With a Domestic Opening = $144,165,107.
