FX Nab The Rights To Another Summer Blockbuster, Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes!

There's no word on when it will premiere on the small screen, but Deadline report that FX have now got the rights to recently released movie, Rise of the Planet of the Apes. As you can see in the following excerpt, this is just another big 2011 blockbuster that the network have added to their ranks, with more sure to follow during the coming weeks and months.

FX is adding another No. 1 summer opener to its movie lineup. The cable network has bought the exclusive TV rights to this weekend's new entry, Fox's Rise Of The Planet of The Apes, which is exceeding expectations and is now on track to gross $50 million.

Apes join[s] the recent FX acquisitions of Friends With Benefits, Horrible Bosses, Captain America: The First Avenger & Thor (both under FX's 2008 output deal with Marvel), Transformers: Dark of the Moon, Bad Teacher, Green Lantern, The Hangover Part II, Rio, Super 8, X-Men: First Class, Just Go With It, The Green Hornet, Tron: Legacy, and Kung Fu Panda 2.

seems obvious to me, but Apes is a FOX film, so why wouldn't FX be the channel to premiere it? Doesn't seem as though there's as much competition like in the days when the major broadcast networks would show theatrical films.

Anyone actually old enough to remember when a broadcast television premiere was a huge ordeal if watching with the family? :)

Kinda miss it in the day of instant access and so forth.

I think the mini series even got more hype
