Casting agent for this movie should have been fired. Movie was OK at best but nowhere near as good as it could have been.

From the moment they announced the new movie they said it would be like the first one, where goodzilla has 15 minutes of screen time.

Let's hope we get 20 minutes of him in the sequel. I don't want to appear greedy though, we were already spoiled with 15

The movie is not great but most of the complains are because people wanted to see Godzilla fight monsters for 2 hours.
All the shitty "Godzilla vs" movies ruined the real message of Godzilla

Could the movie had been better? Sure but it was now where near as bad as the previous US version.

@Bekss

Agreed about the whole "Godzilla vs." thing. The ruined message of Godzilla makes Ken Watanabe sad.

Really good movie, that was held back a bit from being great. Biggest mistake was killing off Bryan Cranston so early on and having his son become the main character...but NOT the lack of screen-time for Godzilla.

All the constant teases were a masterclass in building suspense and anticipation, so that the 3rd act was as riveting and engaging as it could possibly be. I saw this twice in theaters, and each time the audience was just INTO it, you know? Applauding, clapping, audibly gasping...it was just a ridiculously fun time at the theaters.

Yeah I had no problem with Godzilla's screen time. I just felt like all the energy and emotion were drained out of the movie as soon as Cranston was killed off. Up until that point the movie was great, after that it fell completely flat.

Oh and it suffered from the problem a lot of these types of movies do where the main character, an average soldier, just happens to be everywhere the monsters attack. Despite the fact that they attack multiple cities across the entire planet. It takes me right out of the film. It's like, wait he is randomly in the monster's path again?!

The "Jurassic Park" comparisons in terms of a slow burn are missing one major detail. You kill off one of the interesting actors early on, and though you still have Ken Watanabe, that's it. There are no Jeff Goldblums, no Sam Jacksons, Sam Neils, etc. Actors that are actually very entertaining to watch. That would have made a huge difference as far as the pacing complaints go. I still loved the movie and saw it twice in the theater, but let's hope we get a bit more of everything in the sequel.

The dramatic Watanabe 'staring' montage is up there with the epic GoT 'beeewbs' montage. :D

I have to say that I liked the movie quite a lot. The Gojira screentime would've been perfectly fine if the human protagonist had been more interesting. Especially with the kaiju kicking up shit all around the world I also would've prefered more relevant human characters all around than just ATJ. And I know I'm in the minority on this, but I didn't particularly care for Cranston and his performance in the movie.

Godzilla was one of the best movies of 2014. People these days can't go ten seconds without explosions and no plot which is probably why Transformers 4 made so much money.

This movie wasn't horrible but definitely wasn't great either. Not because of liking original godzirra nor because they weren't fighting the whole time. Also not godzirra's small amount of time on the screen nor that other creatures had larger roles. Those reasons all brought to the failure of this movie but mainly because it just wasn't good. Good honest trailer though.

The problems I had with this movie had nothing to do about the human element. I liked Bryan Cranston's character, I likee Aaron Taylor-Johnson character even though his character is supposed to be emtionless caharcetr the acting felt a littloe bit off. What I hated about this movie was how they teased the fights. It was done so poorly. The scene was made like you were seeing Godzilla fight the monster and it cu back to something else. I wouldnt mind seeing Godziila in the final battle only IF the hype was done right. It wasnt. This movie did the opposite of hype for me it irritated me. This movie could have been a lot worst yes it could buit it could have been better than it was supossed to.
GuyRot
GuyRot - 9/9/2014, 3:51 PM
i actually liked how when godzilla shows up in hawaii and we get a full body shot of him, it cuts away. it made the movie somehow more enjoyable for me....i guess i just really liked the teasing of godzilla
DaAwesomeDude
DaAwesomeDude - 9/9/2014, 3:58 PM
@GuyRot I only think at least in my opinion the teasing could be done in a different way because if you the way that scene was shot it felt like Godzilla was REALLY going to fight the monster and then they cutted. For example they could have a person look to the airport and see the Godzilla and the monster fight a little and then cut away.

I wasn't disappointed that the movie only featured fifteen minutes of Godzilla himself. I was disappointed because this movie was sold almost exclusively by Edwards and the studio as a remake of the 1954 film (in which Godzilla is an atomic nightmare and a genuinely terrifying force), when in fact it was more like all those sh*tty "Godzilla vs." movies, where, for absolutely no logical reason whatsoever, Godzilla is portrayed as-- and treated by the characters as-- a hero... despite being responsible for just as much collateral damage and loss of life as the creatures he subdues.

"Stupid" does not even BEGIN to do the "monster-fighting" genre justice. F%$# this movie.
