Deadline is reporting that
Jordan Vogt-Roberts'
Kong: Skull Island, which currently holds an impressive 80% Certified Fresh rating on review aggregator
RottenTomatoes, is tracking for a monstrous $110-$135 million opening weekend worldwide, which should be a more than solid debut for the film, which reportedly cost around $190 million to make.
In the States, it's projected to pull in somewhere between $45-$50 million, but will face heavy competition from
James Mangold's superhero masterpiece
Logan, which despite being in its second week, is still expected to score around $40-$48 million thanks, in no small part, to widespread critical acclaim and extremely strong word-of-mouth.
Kong should benefit from IMAX & 3D screenings, both of which kick off tomorrow night at 7 PM, so it's projected haul could certainly go higher as we get through the weekend.
On another note, the film's Academy Award-nominated star
Samuel L. Jackson (
Avengers: Infinity War) recently released a very cool new Chinese poster - which also announces the film's Chinese release on March 24th - featuring himself standing in front of the King Ape. Check it out below:
