The Matrix Resurrections is set to hit theaters next Wednesday, and while full reviews remain under embargo until the 21st, those who managed to get an early look at the long-awaited sci-fi sequel have now shared their initial reactions to social media.

For the most part, critics seemed to be very happy with Lana Wachowski's film, which comes to us almost two decades after the highly divisive conclusion to the original trilogy, The Matrix Revolutions. The cast, particularly returning stars Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss along with new faces Jessica Henwick and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, come in for a lot of praise, as do the action sequences and central romance between Neo and Trinity.

Not everyone was won over, however, and a handful of critics felt the movie was too meta for its own good.

Take a look at the Tweets below for yourselves, and be sure to check back for our review next Tuesday.

“The Matrix Resurrections is a continuation of the story established in the first Matrix film… 20 years after the first film, the franchise that helped define pop culture at the turn of the century is back for a continuation and extension of the original movie. A mind-bending new adventure with action and epic scale, it’s set in a familiar yet even more provocative world where reality is more subjective than ever and all that’s required to see the truth is to free your mind"

Other franchise returnees include Jada Pinkett Smith as Niobe, Lambert Wilson as The Merovingian, and Daniel Bernhardt as Agent Johnson. Also joining the cast will be Andrew Caldwell, Priyanka Chopra, Jonathan Groff, Neil Patrick Harris, Ellen Hollman, Eréndira Ibarra, Toby Onwumere, Christina Ricci, Max Riemelt, and Brian J. Smith.
