According to The Wrap, Michael B. Jordan (“Friday Night Lights”) met with Roland Emmerich to discuss a "major role" in Independence Day 2. As of right now, no offer has been made by 20th Century Fox. The actor is highly thought of at the studio, as he will be playing Johnny "Human Torch" Storm in Josh Trank's upcoming Fantastic Four reboot.

The Wrap does not reveal any details about the role Jordan is up for. Maybe he's up for Captain Steven Hiller's (Will Smith) stepson? Which is a part rumored to exist. On the Will Smith front, a source for The Wrap says his current status "remains unchanged — meaning he’s not officially involved at this time."

When has that actually been confirmed?

As for the sequel to ID4, I'm interested to know what the official story is going to be.

Welcome to Earfffh....again?

Jordan is a great actor he killed it in the Wire. And I haven't seen Fruitvale Station but he's getting some great buzz for his performance. With Creed and this the guys definitely on the rise.

Why is this happening at all?

Didn't anyone see the one where he had Jamie Foxx as the President shooting missiles out the back of a limo and Channing Tatum as his security?

Yeah, has there been any confirmation on casting for F4 reboot? I'm hoping it doesn't get off the ground and it reverts to Marvel. They only have a few more years to release a movie, don't they? So if they don't start soon, they'll lose the rights, right?

I am sure i will be labelled a racist or something for this but if he is cast as Johnny Storm, why are they changing the colour of the character. dont get me wrong im not bothered much but it annoys me when they change the colour of a character and a famous one at that for no reason than to avoid having an all white cast.

oh and that means that Sue Storm will be black as well?

When was it confirmed that he was playing Human Torch? If he is the Invisible Woman had better be black too. I could see him playing Will's kid. But I think it would be better to bring back Ross Bagley. But I guess he could be his son with Jasmine.

DO IT!!!! It's not because I care or don't care about ID but because I hope he finds another franchise unstead of doing Human Torch.
If I cared about ID I would be glad to see him as Will Smith's son because not only I think him and Will Smith have similar characteristics and traits but he also seems a decent actor.

I keep reading he's rumored for this and that, but I've yet to hear he's officially signed for anything. I really like the guy and hope to see him in some of these things, but to hear all these rumors you'd think he's the next Harrison Ford, but he really isn't actually in anything. Of course he WAS in Frutvalle Station and Flashpoint. So that's not entirely accurate. But you get what I'm saying. Sometimes rumors can make a person just as popular as the real thing.

He's probably not playing "Will Smith's son." I'm sure there are other black people in the movie's reality.

@TheHumanRocket

Emmerich has gone on record talking about how the plot of ID2 would be centered around the stepson of Will Smith's character. It's clear that Michael B Jordan is a hot property at FOX and they want to push this kid in a major tent pole.

Since ID2 is slated to come out in 2015 along with the Fantastic Four reboot, his
casting here could be looked at as FOX's way of backing away from the Human Torch idea, which is looking more and more as the studio thinking out loud about a way to give one of their up and coming young actors a plumb role in a studio tent pole.
