REBEL MOON Director Zack Snyder Teases An Ambitious Six-Movie Plan For His Netflix Sci-Fi Saga

With the DC Extended Universe now in his rearview (whether he likes it or not), Zack Snyder has shifted focus to a lucrative Netflix deal which has allowed him to expand the Dawn of the Dead franchise and launch a sci-fi franchise with Rebel Moon

The first instalment, A Child of Fire, received largely negative reviews but was supposedly a ratings hit (the filmmaker even claimed viewership numbers on streaming would translate into $1.6 billion at the box office). Now, with the second chapter and two director's cuts on the way, Snyder has shed new light on his ambitious plans for the franchise.

"I guess four makes sense. Four or six movies, depending...I guess it's whether or not every time we make one of these movies we make two, that's the question," he told Radio Times (via SFFGazette.com) of his plans for Rebel Moon moving forward.

"We were talking about it the other day and I was like, would an audience be disappointed if they only got one movie now from Rebel Moon?" Snyder added. "Would they be like, 'Oh, it's one now? Great.'"

Tomatoes Score Has Been Revealed (And It's Not Good)

Rebel Moon - Part Three has not been greenlit by Netflix, but Snyder already has a pretty good idea of where he'd like to take a story originally pitched to Lucasfilm as a samurai-inspired Star Wars movie.

"We absolutely have the story all set, we did all that work," he teases. "We wrote a treatment for the movie so we'll see how we go ahead."

Snyder was quick to add that, despite his threequel hopes, The Scargiver will be a satisfying conclusion to the story. "I think the first thing is that people are going to really get this next chapter that really takes and answers all these questions from Part One, and really sort of completes this four-hour experience."

Only time will tell what the future holds in store for Rebel Moon, though we've previously heard of plans for spin-offs, podcasts, video games, and more. Whether those materialise will hinge on the upcoming sequel's success.

Rebel Moon - Part Two: The Scargiver continues the epic saga of Kora and the surviving warriors as they prepare to sacrifice everything, fighting alongside the brave people of Veldt, to defend a once peaceful village, a newfound homeland for those who have lost their own in the fight against the Motherworld. On the eve of their battle, the warriors must face the truths of their own pasts, each revealing why they fight. As the full force of the Realm bears down on the burgeoning rebellion, unbreakable bonds are forged, heroes emerge, and legends are made.

Rebel Moon - Part Two: The Scargiver starts streaming on Netflix on April 19.

Should've seen that coming. Snyder really only plans far ahead, but has no idea how to get there. He knows how to shoot cool moments, but that's it. Part 1 was a mess, as were BvS, JL and Army of the Dead.

@bkmeijer1 - It feels a bit like some posting here at times, always in a rush for the big stuff and at the same time complaining about fluff or side characters not realising without time with some of the fluff and side characters the you don't grow to care about the characters and without it the big stuff doesn't have any impact.

That isn't to say some project couldn't be trimmed obviously but the odd thing with Snyder is how he makes such LONG stories and oft still can't suitable explore and develop his characters in them but more the point. I think he spends so much time looking toward the distance he misses some of the required steps required to get there or at least have folk invested enough to go all the way with him. Good vision and could be a great director but needs more input from others to draft the stories and scripts for him and/or more voices telling him which ideas don't work ad reign him in at times (and I love a whole bunch of his films, even when not perfect but he's getting worse not better with his flaws of approach).

@Apophis71 - exactly. He needs someone to write the stoey for him. That's why I think Dawn of the Dead, 300 and Watchmen are his best movies

This man's ambition out-matches even that of Orson Welles.

This bullshit of Zack Snyder saying he has a six-movie plan and other directors who think they have an ambitious franchise or trilogy on their hands, why not try this…. Shut the [frick] up, keep your plans to yourself and let’s see if the first one does well. For [frick]s sake.

Because this was pitched as a Star Wars movie and got passed, now it's been made as a stand-alone, doesn't mean it will have Star Wars success 🙄

That’s why what’s the name of his zombie movie?? It was coming out, and he or they said it would have 100 spin-offs, video games and 500 sequels. For [frick]s sake, stop talking shit. Did that happen?? No, it [frick]ing didn’t. Why? Because no one cared what happened at the end. [frick]!

Rebel Moon was ok, but I won’t give a shit about it. If it doesn’t do a trilogy, the story is not that great🙄

These [frick]ing Directors should please keep their plans for their movies and see how they perform.

Learn from a recent movie that did a tetralogy, like John Wick. These mother[frick]ers didn’t start talking about it till after part 2 or was it after the trilogy.

I love Zack but [frick] off with this 6 part plan, you haven't done a good story since 300 or Sucker Punch. For [frick]s sake😡🙄

I haven’t seen Sucker Punch….so it IS worth watching?

@tylerzero - Erm, depends on what you want from a film, he totaly messed up the core story but the visuals of the stuff going on in the main characters head, the action in that I love but overall the film is seriously flawed...

...there was a great compelling story there and could have been great but so much put into the fantasy action stuff he failed at the in universe RL story of the main characters...

...I still enjoy watching the film however and as I got what the underlying story is supposed to be then I can overlook the flaws but suspect most would consider it bad.

Likely somebody somewhere has made a cut pasting together just the psychosis scenes of what is going on in her fractured mind which I'd recommend folk checking out if so at least but the full film maybe not.

@tylerzero - Matey, for movies that are out there, Sucker Punch is one of them. With amazing effects and CGI, it's a stunning movie. Watch and let me know what you think. It may not be your cup of tea, however, so dont take my word for it. Just watch and let me know👍

@Apophis71 - Why are you answering my question? Lol. I agree with you on the core story but let's be honest, Zack has never really delivered a good story; it's his presentation that always stands out.

Went into it only knowing to expect style > substance. That said, tyler has zero regrets watching it.

Heard the sequels meant to be a great deal better than Part One. Still not amazing, but better.

The first one could've been great if Snyder would stop insisting to write his own movies. If he just got a decent script writer who could tell Zack no when they had to, but just let Zack create the story and give notes and solely stick to directing - he wouldn’t have such bad movies.

@Se4M4NSt4ine - um, I think part 1 was meant to be great too. But it’s not. Probably because Zack Snyder is Zack Snyder. Can’t imagine Netflix will be interested after part 2 bombs.

Haven't watched Part Two yet, but I'd rather he move onto something else. I typically enjoy Snyders movies for what they are. But this franchise doesn't have my interest anymore after the first one. It's just too similar to so many other sci-fi's it feels like I'm watching something I've already seen a thousand times.

Go back to the world of Army of the Dead and expand on that. The first one could have been better, but the ideas he had were pretty cool and I'd like to see more of that.

Oh boy!

4 or even 6 sh!tty movies instead of just 2 sh!tty movies!

Snyder continues to devolve at a massive pace.

Hopefully no more Snyder Cut shenanigans if they make more of these things. I'm holding out until the SC releases to watch them, I don't see the point of watching the inferior versions
