STAR TREK TV Series To Follow STAR TREK 2?

It's possible. Apparently, J.J. Abrams, Bryan Singer and Bryan Fuller are kicking around the idea of bringing the beloved sci-fi television show back to the airwaves.

Producer Bryan Fuller (Pushing Daisies) has revealed in Entertainment Weekly that he's very keen to bring Star Trek back to television screens and that he's discussed the possibility with director/producers Bryan Singer (X-Men) and J.J. Abrams (Star Trek-film). Said Fuller---

"Bryan and I are big fans of Trek and have discussed a take on what we would do, and we would love to do it," he admitted.

"And I'm sure it would be wisely under JJ Abrams's purview of what happens. He's the guardian of Trek right now."

Prior to producing Pushing Daisies, Fuller wrote scripts for Star Trek: Deep Space Nine and Star Trek: Voyager. Nothing will likely happen till after Star Trek 2 is released but the track record of those involved leads me to believe that this is a real possibility.

The sequel to J.J. Abrams Star Trek reboot will hit theaters May 17, 2013.


Star Trek is an American science fiction entertainment franchise created by Gene Roddenberry. The core of Star Trek is its six television series: The Original Series, The Animated Series, The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, Voyager, and Enterprise. The franchise also includes eleven feature films, dozens of games, hundreds of novels as well as a themed attraction in Las Vegas (opened in 1998 and closed in September 2008) and at least two traveling museum exhibits of props. Beginning with the original television series and continuing with the subsequent films and series, the franchise has become a cult phenomenon, initiated the creation of the fully functional constructed language Klingon, and spawned many pop culture references.

agreed, how can you re-make the TV series, when we have only had a glimpse of the new time line, plus they won't be able to get the movie cast on the tv version and that'll mean introducing a whole new set of cast members,

Uhm, if he's a guardian of something, it's not 'Trek'. He's the guardian of whatever it is he created which of course, per his own decisions, is not really 'Trek'.

I would love to see Star Trek back on tv, but wait until after the films. Unless they do something in the same timeline but different ship and crew.

I trust JJ Abrams. If he produces a new Star Trek series, it'll probably succeed. I was very impressed by his Star Trek reboot. Best franchise reboot to date IMO. At least give the show a chance if it's on the table.

And get all the actors from the films? That TV show would have an astronomical budget, so good luck. If they can pull it off though, I'm all for it. I have absolutely hated Star Trek in every incarnation for my entire life, but what Abrams and crew did has damn near made me a convert. The sequel is one of my most anticipated.

@boogaloo, I don't know John Cho and Quinto have both had roles in TV shows (Flashforward and Heroes) and no offence to Pine, but I don't think he's that big a star that he would miss out on many big roles if he did a tv series. Karl Urban's a bit trickier but there's certainly always a chance.

Bout time they brought Star Trek back.

Although I think they should continue the current Trek films as films only.

The TV series should continue on from Next Generation and Deep Space Nine with new cast and characters.

@ RealGothamite - Completely agree...i mean how could you get the cast of the movie to do a TV series...

Nah i think they should establish that this new film timeline is the original timeline just altered...just cause the timeline changed doesnt mean the next generation didnt still happen...

Have the new series with Enterprise F and a new crew and you can have cameos of the old next gen crew at the beginning...

I don't think most people realize it, but 2 separate studios own the individual Star Trek franchises.I'm not even sure if Fuller and Singer realize it.

CBS owns the TV franchise, while Paramount own the the film franchise, and they both operate independently.Neither has any input with the other one and neither profit from each other's project.There's no reason for CBS to wait for the movies to finish, because they really have no stock in them.

As it was stated above, a new TV series should follow the original timeline, while the film continues to follow the new, divergent timeline.I don't even think CBS would be able to even use that new continuity, as it actually belongs to Paramount.

It really makes no sense for a TV series to follow the movies, as a TV series has the possibility of going for numerous years, as well as turn out spinoffs.If they try to stay in the new timeline, these series will eventually end up retreading the series we've already seen and the characters we've already seen.It's better to just start a new series that picks up some years after Voyager and go from there.

i would definately watch a tv series and give it a chance. i have watched pretty much everything involving star trek, even the horrible pilot of the original series with pike as captain and Majel Barrett as number one.

@SuperSomething616- i agree 100%, the Next Gen idea would be a good way to continue the new timeline and have a lower budget casting tv actors. Or develop a series picking up where Next Gen, DS9, and Voyager left off. I would love to see where events lead following these shows, and could still have cameos of the cast from the past series.

Put it on hbo,so they can do episodes about anything.Only do 13 episodes a year so its fresh,interesting,they can have time with the fx,and they can keep their movie careers.Have the cast make their money in backend deals so they can get the whole movie cast and spend the money on the screen.Done like that the show could be....wait for it...wait for it... L...E..G..E..N..D..A..R..Y...
