In a bit of unfortunate news, it seems that CBS All Access' Star Trek: Discovery will be moving on without showrunner Bryan Fuller (Hannibal, American Gods).

The announcement comes on the heels of a previous statement last month from CBS, indicating that the show would be debuting in May 2017 instead the the originally planned air date of January 2017. This delay was attributed to more time being needed to make the series the best it could be, along with Fuller's commitment to Starz' adaptation of American Gods

CBS has announced that Fuller will be replaced by Gretchen Berg and Aaron Harberts, longtime partners who worked with Fuller on programs such as Pushing Daisies and Wonderfalls. Despite losing Fuller, CBS confirmed the show is still set for its May 2017 debut. You can read the network's full statement below.

We are extremely happy with the creative direction of Star Trek: Discovery and the strong foundation that Bryan Fuller has helped us create for the series. Due to Bryan’s other projects, he is no longer able to oversee the day-to-day of Star Trek, but he remains an executive producer, and will continue to map out the story arc for the entire season. Alex Kurtzman, co-creator and executive producer, along with Fuller’s producing partners and longtime collaborators, Gretchen Berg & Aaron Harberts, will also continue to oversee the show with the existing writing and producing team. Bryan is a brilliant creative talent and passionate Star Trek fan, who has helped us chart an exciting course for the series. We are all committed to seeing this vision through and look forward to premiering Star Trek: Discovery this coming May 2017.

Translation: We couldn't get on the same page with the guy who has been dying to do this for years of his life, and I guess Peyton Reed was busy or something.

@BackwardGalaxy - Nah, he's just too busy. That's literally it.

@BackwardGalaxy - In addition to American Gods, Fuller's also working on rebooting Spielberg's Amazing Stories. Too much on his plate and I suppose Discovery was last on his list.

I have high hopes for this show. Not much faith in CBS though.

Bummer. Bryan Fuller was one of the reasons I was really excited. I'm hoping American Gods played a big role in him leaving. Better than than "creative differences".

2 shitty teaser trailers, alex kurtzman is a co creator and producer, they push it back half a year and now this guy is leaving and we are being lied to about why. this is in big trouble.

i bet it ends with a cliffhanger and we never see season 2.

As much as I want a new Star Trek series, I have zero faith that CBS can deliver a show to the standard of HBO, Netflix etc.

I stopped being interested when I heard it was set in the past.

The reboot is in the past,Enterprise is in the past and now Discovery.

What I really want to see is an expansion of the Temporal Prime Directive stuff. You could create all kinds of universes, bring back the Q and do some unique stuff.

As a lifelong Trek fan,it's really tapped dry on the creative side.

Do.
Something.
New.
