STAR WARS: Liam Neeson Wants To Come Back As Qui-Gon Jinn For The OBI-WAN Movie, But Is It Plausible?

In an interview with Yahoo Movies UK, The Phantom Menace actor Liam Neeson revealed that he is open to returning as the Jedi master for the Obi-Wan Kenobi spin-off. But would his appearance make sense?

Liam Neeson is non-stop (pun intended) when it comes to churning out action films. Since Taken, he has become well seasoned in the craft of killing bad guys, yet his most prominent role is still Qui-Gon Jinn.

Though The Phantom Menace may be maligned by many fans, Qui-Gon remained a favorite throughout the years, and during his press tour for The Commuter, the action legend was asked about his future as the Jedi - specifically if he would reprise his role in the Obi-Wan anthology film.

"This is the first time I'm hearing of [the movie]. No one's been in touch with me. I know in the Star Wars World anything is possible. In the first one, The Phantom Menace, I died but we know, you know, Jedi come back and stuff but no one's been in touch. We'll see."

Neeson most recently reprised the role for an appearance in Star Wars: The Clone Wars (as seen above), so it's entirely possible that the character could again in the force ghost capacity, as Yoda did in The Last Jedi.

Yoda said to obi-wan in III there was an old friend who discovered some cool force powers. Obi-wan figured it probably is qui gon, so I guess that appearence could make sense

@MalseMarcel - Yoda says explicitly that it’s Qui-Gon Jinn.

Of course it’s plausible, Force ghosts have been a thing since the beginning and it pays off that line in Episode 3.

Unacceptable.
I’m Rian Johnson’s bold and daring New Star Wars.

Obi-Wan needs to be a drunk suffering from cabin fever stuck on Tatooine using a straw as his lightsaber. And as for a Force Ghost. No to Qui-Gon. Even though that would be the proper force Ghost, that won’t sell toys and remind people of the Prequels. No they will introduce a new Jedi who we have never seen before but seemingly has a deep connection to Obi-Wan.

😂 😂 😂 out of 😂 😂 😂 😂

But seriously...when Lucas cut Qui-Gon out of ROTS this would be an amazing way to really tie up those loose ends.

I would be down for that. Love me some jinn. SIde note. I'm been playing the new Star Wars battlefront 2 heroes vs villains mode non stop. Playing as Rey and Darth mostly. There my mains. If they added jinn, , he'd def be my new main.

I’d love for Kenobi to have conversations with Qui-Gon. Would be a good way to cap off the entirety of the prequels cast.

@IKidYouNotMan - when Neeson “appeared” on Clone Wars I was ecstatic. It was a great arc too.

IF any of you had watched the clone wars; you’d know that qui-gonn cant appear as a force ghost cause he didn’t finish the training for it. He only appeared in that one episode cause the location was strong in the force. So he’d only be able to return as a voice

@Flydude - I watched the whole series and don’t remember that being the case, also it’s kinda implied in the movies that their manifestation is directly tied to the person their communicating with’s connection to the force as to how they appear not their own ability. In Episode 4 when Luke is training and just established his connection to the force Obi-Wan is just a disembodied voice, in Empire whe he is stlightly stronger he’s a voice and a faint vision, then in Return of the Jedi he’s almost completely solid and can interact with the world around him (he even sits on a log). Now we know that it has to be based on a connection to the force because no one other than Luke ever sees the 3 force ghosts at the end of Episode 6, and Han doesn’t see Obi-wan in Episode 4. Plus Yoda never appears in 8 until Luke reconnects with the force so their appearance is based on that

Forget it. he's Qui Gone. (Finally, a joke that actually works better in printed text).

Qui-Gon as a ghost in the Obi-Wan would be dope!

My preferred SW viewing order is 4, 5, 3 (flashback), 6, 7, 8. I have suggested that one can get away with skipping TPM and AOTC, and only watching REVENGE OF THE SITH.

The only aspect which might not make sense to a newbie who’s never seen TPM is the mention of Qui-Gon at the end of ROTS. If he were to appear in an Obi-Wan movie, training him on becoming a force ghost, that would complete the saga for me.

So, it would be: 4, 5, 3(flashback), 6, [interlude: Solo, Obi-Wan, Rogue One], 7, 8, 9.

@NoAssemblyReqd - doesn’t Yoda explicitly say, “your old master.”? I think the GA could figure it out. Even if someone doesn’t know Qui Gon they still know he’ll be communing with his old master whole on Tatooine.
